Name?

What was the name of the Biologist who did so much work on identifying plants in Baja and published a book on the Bahia plants back in the 70's?

Paul De Bauk (sp)? He was the head of the botany dept at UCR and I was fortunate enough to make my first trip down here with him and his friends in '68

The book written by Norman C. Roberts is titled Baja California Plant Field Guide. It was published in 1989. He gives credit to Ira L. Wiggins for much of the material. Wiggins book, Flora of Baja California was published in 1980.

But I don't think he was a biologist. Met him once...believe he said he was an engineer. Botany was his passion, though. Think he just died recently... in his late 80's, maybe older.

NAME

This guy was pretty cool too .. Reid Moran

There have been a lot of good folks in natural and physical science who have fallen in love with this place and have gone just nuts studying and writing about it ... as not too much had really been done with the Baja ... lots of folks thought it was just a desert with no roads .... why the hell would you go there... and then folks who had gotten out of the service and had got a hold of some of those old Army International Harvester trucks... started coming on down for real..... as one could really get away, so to speak and the fishing down here was :lol: .. plus the "beer" and all the rest .... and talk about cheap ... glad I was lucky enough to get exposed to it by my dad, who started coming down in to Baja after the second wold war.. with some of his friends ..

Someone told me about this guy... I did not know him.. but the question brought a NAME brought him to mind.. when reading all the others names ..

It's hard reading as the notes have been digitize by volunteers of SDNHM Botany Department (huge job) ... they have redone all his notes and you can read all of his work over a very long period of time ..... all of it, in his own hand writing ...... starts in 1936 and stops 1993

Would also suggest checking San Diego Natural History Museum online if you have not already .. lots of good stuff ... a very nice resource

http://www.sdnhm.org/fieldguide/index.html

Have fun... :):)

Norm was a veterinarian, and after he retired a stock-broker--sort of an unlikely background, for a really worthwhile book on plants.
