Fishing Tackle Shop in Baja?

With the rate of exchange being good, I was wondering if there's a good place to buy fishing tackle in Baja? (Between the boarder and Bay of LA) Ensenada? Where do the locals get their gear? Yah, I've seen the Wal-Mart, etc. Just wondering if there were deals to be had???

If you're looking for the best prices and slection, buy your fishing gear in the US.
The prices for lures, line, etc. in Baja are outrageous !!

Try Cabela's or Tackledirect.com or Charkbait.com or Ebay or others.

There's a tackle shop in Ensenada south of the fish mkt. on the east side of the main drag. They sell Ghost Shrimp guns, throw nets, and some tackle. B4 the last turnoff to Estero Bch. Resort on the main hwy (B4 the light) on the right there is a mom and pop tackle store. Bait sold there and some old tackle. Villlarinos (sp.) on the way out to Pta. Banda sells some limited tackle.

If your going through San Diego stop by SQUIDCO for some serious low priced fresh tackle. Their profit margin is low so they move volume tackle big time. Nobody can compete with them in this market.

haven't been there myself, but I'm told that there is a shop in alley behind the Ensenada Ford dealer that sells plastics for $0.20 - .30 each.

Hola, diver and mulegemichael are completely correct. you have more access to fishing supplies in the existing tackle shops and on the web in the states.

there is a huge markup on any of the supplies and most shops here in baja sur do not have the greatest selections. bisbees and minerva's are the exception if you're anywhere near them in cabo but their prices reflect having such a large inventory plus the importation costs.

in baja sur, unlike cabo and perhaps la paz, the smaller towns do not have extensive inventories and due to the decline of tourism, the selections are even more limited and more expensive.

even with the peso being around 12.5 or so, there really is no true advantage if you're quality minded.

Heading to La Paz Sunday with a pit stop at Bass pro Shops in RC (the one in Denver has a the worst selection, as expected) Saturday, any orders? Sounds like there is some gas money to be made here:tumble:

Sold the majority off.

I am sure there are many, many others here as well who also have there own private tackle shops!!

NEW FISHING TACKLE ITEM SAVES FUEL AND TIME

I have had a fishing revelation for this next season in Baja Sur that should help the ever-increasing fuel bills. :light:

With a case of iced Pacificos, I'll take these powerful mega-binoculars to the top of the microwave tower hill south of Mulege. I'll have an eagle's eyeview of the entire fishing grounds below me.

Keeping one eye clear and steady, I can mark the locations of who is catching what.

Viola, the next day I am catching fish.

Success is guaranteed.

Watcha think?..will this plan float? Maybe 2 cases?

I have lots of other great ideas fromulating in the cabesa as we speak.

I have a pair of binoculars just like those, can't hold them steady enough to see anything.......maybe I should invest in a tripod.....or stop drinking....dt
