import duty on US beef lifted
MEXICO CITY, Aug. 11, 2010 -- Mexico Wednesday ended its anti-dumping duties on imported U.S. beef, the Mexican Economy Ministry said in a statement.
Mexico had charged from 3 to 80 U.S. cents per kg of beef since 2000 when Mexican officials concluded U.S. beef was dumped on the Mexican market.
Mexico reviewed the anti-dumping duties after a U.S. beef company, Tyson Fresh Meats, which also produces beef in Mexico, appealed against the duties
in 2008. Effective Wednesday (August 11th) and retroactive to April 29th, all U.S. beef will cross the border duty-free, companies which paid duties
since April 29th will be eligible for a refund

This ruling benefits companies who import U.S. Beef. It would be wrong to assume that you can now bring a trailer full of t-bones through
customs.

beef is the same price as stores in southern california
prices in the states are climbing daily
beef here is probably better for you too...no hormones

Most of the beef that is in the stores in Ensenada and many markets here in the San Quintin area is from Canada and the States. We buy it by the case.
Some is from Mexico it is the higher priced one.
the no hormones beef was a very long time ago. Since Nafta it is not that way any more.
Still a few local butchers that buy local beef but so not worth it.
I know beef is the same as or almost the same as the states but you have to remember many people only make 600. pesos a week so it is to high and
should come down. If the tariff is lower than the price should reflect it.
Can only hope. But know it will not happen

A butcher at Tijuana Walmart told me they are the only chain in town the uses Mexican beef. The rest, Commericial Mexicana, Calimax and Sorianos,
import it from the US.

Whenever there's a discussion of "Bad" Burgers I think back to my youth in South L.A. and the "El Rey Mexican Foods" factory on South Avalon which
had a retail walk-up window and served (possibly) the second-best tasting Hamburgers I'd ever had. Best was at the Jai Alai Palace in TJ.
We were always disappointed when we'd go down to El Rey and find out they'd been closed down by the Health Department. Which was often. Couldn't
wait for them to open up again so we could get those great Burgers.
