What's up in Loreto/LB?

I'm back on since April??? Where the heck did May/June/July go? Did a search for Loreto gossip (ooopppsss meant to say news) Nothing happening recently??? I read about not being able to drive to Dr. Point? Who's blocking that? Did Nellie get her real estate office open across from Mita's? If so, still open?? How's my favorite restaurant Mita's doing? Juan still in good spirits? Is his 'guitar' player still performing? Is the guitars players dad still living in LaPaz?? (this question will stump all except for the local Nomads who remember the father son duo days) Can't wait to get back to Loreto in November. Hopefully the traffic hasn't become "gridlock' by now. Anyone seen the couple from Carson City Nv who used to hang out at Auggies that lived in Nopolo lately? Bummer. Can't remember their names. Senior moments they call it)
I'm reading summer temps do-able. How wonderful. Has any of the older motels closed their doors because of the new hotel that recently opened? Bring me & others up to date on what's happening down there.
See ya soon. Phil & Wendy

Beer is still cold and the water is still wet.

Can't think of anything else of importance.

Once you arrive, you'll be able to tell us. I understand that Homex, a Mexican construction company, has bought the LB land and is proposing some residence designs for sale. I think the word is that they won't be in the style of the original LB project.

Where do you guys that live in Loreto buy your food? The only store that I am aware of is that supermercado where the cobblestone walkway to the church starts. Everytime I go in there, all they have are about 5 lbs of one or two cuts of beef, several chickens, a little bit of ground up meat, a couple varieties of bulk white cheese, a some salchichas. The produce always looks a little old. Since 1985, I have always wondered where the 14,000 residents buy their food.

that IS all that matters

on buying food we get it anywhere we can which usually involves a minimum of five different stores to fulfill a list, or you can cruise any particular store and plan your meal around what they have on stock that's fun too. buy local and in season

I seem to always meet Loreto people at the Ley store down south. Like Pam says, if it's a two dish dinner or more, it's always a multi-store shopping experience. But that's the charm of Baja.

I do 90% of my shopping at the sunday market. Meat, veggies, eggs etc. and just get dairy and bakery goods at local stores during the rest of the week. You never know what you may see for sale and it's also a good place to meet your neighbors.

Loreto gossip

Juan Carlos and Marta Cortez of Mita Gourmet are hard at it, the Italians are in town this month, so business is OK. Their daughter Maritza (Mita) was married last month so congratulations are in order.

Herzon, the talented guitarist, is back in Guanajuato until January. He is sorely missed!

If you don't know about the Italians, allow me to explain. Guiseppe Marsaletti, the owner of Posada de Los Flores Hotel on the town square has a rather nice clientele of well-heeled Italian tourists who come to Loreto during August. They are often found at Mita dining and drinking in true European fashion late into the night.

I shop in at least five stores as well, including Dali, the Juarez Market, the Tianguis in the riverbed on Sunday, a relatively new place on Calle Preparatoria, (shocking lime green outside, but the name escapes me at the moment,) and some others. I also enjoy the gentleman who owns the Fruiteria on Juarez at Madero for fruits and friendly conversation. And don't forget Fidel and his wife who sell shrimp and other seafood in front of Juarez market from their ice chest on weekends...........

You do need to plan ahead, but bouncing around from store to store is a great way to get out and about and meet and greet the fine folks of Loreto!!:light:

Loreto news

Wife just finished checking up on me, and informed me the Carson City folks names are Jane & Ian Smith.... Anyone know if they have sold their house in Nopolo yet???? Could always find them at Auggies. House has been on the market three year. Thanks for the update.
Oh yes. Anyone seen Don Kern from Roseburg Oregon yet?
