the 18th

Mike, good to hear your going the 18th. We'll go thru Mexicali around 7 or 8 am and right now we're probably going to camp at Punta Final, but that could change after we check it out. We got our boat and motor and are anxious to have it in the water. Hope to see you somewhere there or on the route.

Yakyak
we should hook up pretty close then..we'll try to cross at either Algodones or San Luis as early as they open...with the construction delays southbound...we will probably stop at the Malecon in San Felipe for lunch and fishing license, and some bait

then zoom down the new highway (watch out for ROCKS!) the last itme we went it was 3.5 hrs from the Malecon to Gonzaga Bay turnoff

we may have another truck traveling as well

Punta Final?

no facilities down that far, but the beach is GREAT

the closest camping with facilities is Campo Sacrificio,,,just off the road to Campo Beluga

I talked to someone who has a place at Punta Final and he said there were no palapas or shade of any kind. Our thought is to bring our own shade (poles & tarps). The beauty of Punta Final is that we can launch our cartopper and leave it in the cove for the duration of our trip. Sacrificio is probably next in line.
We'll be coming in a dark blue F150 with matching shell pulling a trailer with 2 ATV's and a boat on top.
Have you gotten fishing licenses at San Felipe before? How long does it take and where do you get them? It looks like our schedules match pretty close, is there a landmark we can meet at to make the Puertocitos to Gonzaga leg together?

the fishing license process, as baja ponderosa says is fairly painless....the bank and fishing office are 50 yds apart...AND they across form the Malecon

we will be in our yellow FJ curiser, tin on top and yellow camper trailer...best landmark IS the Malecon
the favorite fish taco stand is at the south end...cant remember the name
OR the first big Pemex station as you enter San Felipe...huge...looks like one of the US gas marts...

CB radio in the truck?

the cove you speak of is incredible...but might think of Sacrificio as the base or "shower" camp...we simply rented a cabin at $48...split it amongst the 6 folks and spent $4 per person per night for HOT showers, flush toilet, 10x20 patio roof and we let the campers camp around the cabin

caretaker at Sacrificio did a good job of watching stuff

The question of the day is: ARE YOU READY? ONLY 45 DAYS LEFT!!

I found that obtaining a Mexican fishing license is a phone call away. I call Falcon Lake Tackel; 956-765-4866, and give them my credit card and they mail the license to me. Great to deal with and much easier, at least in my mind, then waiting to purchase in Mexico.
Will be in Gonzaga in November, waiting for it to cool down.
I don't know about the fishing, but the spearfishing is outstanding!
