Campo Rene?
Is Campo Rene closed? Was thinking of staying a night. The website is gone. Was there twice in '08. The cool weather was a great relief in August.

I stopped by there last week - open. The fishing coop. has signs posted to not drive on the beach. I found out they were posted to protect the sea
turtles and there were alot of them.

DK sez...."Yah, pilots love to talk in code... It is really funny when they name airports in Baja by code and expect the rest of the Nomads to have a
clue! LOL A secret society for sure... even their once public forum is now only viewable by paying members of BBP/ Baja Bush Pilots. They had
restricted posting by non-members, but allowed viewing... which can only help membership... Oh well..."
Dave - i have used the acronym BBP here since day one. it is not an airport identifier - it means Baja Bush pilots and my guess most who have dallied
here since 2003 get it. Newbies maybe not but i still prefer to type less since i don't type by touch sight free. - never learned.
the reasons Jack decided to limit his forum to dues paying members has been discussed here in depth, and your arguments in favor of keeping it open
don't hold up. Making it free would not add to the population of bonafide members. The BBP website has TONS of info and pages available to the public.
If you want to join the active discussions pony up $49 for the year. It amounts to less than a fill up for your Toy ota.

"Do you buy shoes or nice clothes without trying them on... ?"
The site is free - only the forum and some pilot database sections requires a membership at a paltry $49 a yr.
you missed the point Amigo - like i said the non members section of the BBP website is chock full of informative pages for free.
but if you want access to the discussion forums which contains data and reports of interest and value to PILOTS flying Mexico and Baja, then it costs
a SMALL premium which helps pay for and support the expensive lobby efforts that go on in Mexico city and DGAC (mex's FAA). Membership has GROWN in
spite of charging to view forums. Freeloading lurkers have had to move on. If they are active Mexico pilots they are missing out. If they are non
pilots they made a simple biz decision.
if it were free to all to access and read there would be a disincentive to pay for it. I'm not talking about just reading and not being able to post
which would satisfy you. The carve out value IS in the reading from other members and admin who pony up. Do you not join and pay for other baja info
clubs like Vags? Well i don't because i don't ground pound in a moho so their info does not interest me.
DK - some businesses DO cost $$ to run and BBP is no exception. Its the member dues that keeps it afloat, not a bunch of banner ads like the case for
free forums like this one. Its an apple and orange.
The BBP site has info which in all fairness needs $$ contribution support by membership to keep current and a part of the action. I know it gripes
you not to be able to read it free but your bias against their decision to make it semi private is rather pedantic. There are a dozen other baja
subject websites/forums out there to play on and you are a participant in most as i can observe. If you want to know what the flyers are doing you
have to pay to play.

No, no... their site was made so non-members couldn't post there... and that was fine... It is them making their site invisible to non-members, I was
complaining about. Sorry that you didn't know that... I do have good logic for what I think.

Not to mention.....how many people pay for membership at Costco? What do we get out of that? It's not like we get to march in parades or anything as
cool as that.
Will it be on my headstone?

Funniest post of the year award material !!!!
Hey DK,
Maybe the BBP guys just don't want you to know what they are saying about you !?
Or just maybe it has something to do with the increased concern over aviation security ?
Duh, ya think ??

Sorry dt, I haven't been to Campo Rene in 4 years.
We have always gone in a camper or trailer and loved the atmosphere of the place.
A quiet paddle in a kayak or canoe can open up a whole new world !
