Annual Mexican Insurance ????
On or about Oct 15th I will enter Baja(of course through Tecate) and begin the retirement program that has been dealt me by the recent few years
economy... I anticipate being in BCS for probably 8 months of the year and will explore the NW US in the hot summer months... possible taking in some
exploration of the MX mainland instead of the NW...
There is a question:
I have priced the annual insurance by devaluing the value of my truck to $3500 and my towed items to $3500 for a total of $7000... both of the usual
sources here on this site have the price just above $500.yr.... that seems high and I would like some assistance on how you have obtained reasonable
coverage at an acceptable price..... I want to be protected from liability but I am will to forgo some value on my truck to save money.... suggestions
and/or referrals would be appreciated...

I agree that sounds really high. My annual premium for a value of 22,999 is $328. This is through L and L ins in Santa Monica, Ca. I would keep
looking around.

Call Geoff at Bajabound [see add above] and discuss it with him.
Remember....a trailer requires it's own policy. It's not considered an extension of the truck as it is in the states.

Oldjack... that is probably a policy for tourists on vacation... Max. time in Mexico 6 mos. out of the year policy. It is what I have... costs me $
two hundred something for a $30,000 Tacoma.
What it sounds like is you will be a part time resident in Mexico... and that requires a different kind of policy.

Jack....If liability is your only concern, you can get that for around 150 bucks per year, but I think you'll still have to deal with the trailer
seperatly.
By the way.....the inexpensive liability insurance is only for clients with a stateside address. The Mexicans can't buy it if Mexico is their only
address.
OK....I'm getting in too deep here....dealing with "facts" which I'm unsure of. All I really know are things I've heard for a 1000 years.

Liability policies are typically around $80-90 for the driver's license policy on Baja Bound I recall. A driver's license policy is nice if you have
many cars or on occasion driver other people's cars.

That price would be in line with a six month policy.
I have a DL policy along with full coverage on an almost new car. The DL policy is 149 bucks per year.
The full coverage is around 450 bucks per year.

There are a couple of price levels. The more expensive, such as mine, has a number you can call at the time of your accident and the company will
send a representative to the site, they say right away.
Don't want to test it.

My policy with L & L is $112 per year liabilty only, that includes lawyer ins.
Last year I did have to test it, (I posted an accident report here)
The ins. rep. was at my side within 10 or so mins. of my call, filled out the paper work in another 15mins. or so and was on my way.
The next test will be when I have to renew my policy, I'll report how that goes.
Mean people suck!

Why, in this day and age, would anybody be looking for a discount on a yearly 150 buck purchase?
I don't get it.
