? about FM-3 Renewal TIMING and ?s

My FM-3 is up for renewal in early Feb. I know there is a new "card" and process which requires renewal in person (which I generally did in the past except for my last one, which I had a local Loreto amiga do for me).

I don't believe that I'll be able to get down in Jan / Feb. for my renewal without some serious difficulty (I will likely be "fiddling around" in Asia ~ cello, actually, but that's another story).

It will likely be late March before I can get down to Loreto again.....

Sooooo.... have any of you renewed at a later date? Is it possible without a ton-o-grief?

Is there a penalty? Even if I notify Loreto INM to inform them of my intentions?

And I have a new computer as my old one developed some "issues". . . . so ~ I would much appreciate the new link for the web site where you fill out the form prior to going into INM - and there was a link posted a while back that gave great instructions / guidance in English for those of us who are still learning Spanish....

Thanks for the assist, amigos.

The card is a product of the new system, which seems to have several bugs. Our FM-3s were delayed twice, once because the laminating machine fried the cards and again because they ran out of card blanks. Six weeks and still waiting....

I'm in the process of renewing my daughter's expired FM-3 (expired in March, while she was still living at her mother's in the US). While they did inform me that there will be a penalty for being late, everything else was the routine we're use to (other than not having to provide bank statements anymore). I'll let you know once I find out how much the penalty is.

Can a proxy apply for you?...One who is set up to provide this service in your absence? I could send the photos, and other requirements. One problem I see is a fingerprint. Many people used such a service before the new card was implemented, when the FM3 was in booklet/passport form.

Anybody know?

Here is the website, but I believe you are correct there was an earlier thread w/the instructions. We did ours online, then were given a number for when it was ready to be picked up. We did have to take in certain documents which perhaps you could use a service to do for you. Fingerprint isn't needed until you actually go in, physically, to get the card. As long as the preliminary stuff is in, I can't believe they would penalize you for not picking it up on time, but that's just my opinion....

Hola, when i renewed my fm3 this year, i got to my accountants a couple of days before the expiration date. upon receiving my new fm3, i was charged about 300 pesos for a delinquency fee. i was told it is about a dollar a day but the minimum late charge fee is for thirty days.

i understand next year, i have to appear in person for the new fmm as they will require fingerprinting.

You must be there in person now. The late fee is 800 pesos and there is a time limit before they cancel it and you have to start over....after you pay 800 pesos for the cancellation.I'm not sure how long an expired fm2 or 3 can go before it is automatically cancelled. Also no more paper to travel with while you wait for your renewal to be completed. Some people said they got their new card on the spot but others have had to wait, some a long time. I was told that I was going to have to wait 10 days to 2 weeks for mine, last time they said that it was 4 months.

We had the non-renewal from hell of our FM2's this year and will be headed back to Migration with our tourist visas in a few weeks to start over. I'll post our experience at that time....dt

If it had not been for the photo they needed I wouldn't have had to be there at all. Even that could have been emailed along with a copy of my passport and even funds sent. I used an agent in San Felipe and it couldn 't have been easier.

The fingerprint is only for when I pick up my card from Immagration (which is running late because they ran out). I'm told 6-8 weeks from when I renewed which my Agent will notify me by email when it arrives at Immagration..

Haven't had a bad trip yet....
