Recommended auto insure?
Which Mex auto insurance co's are you guys recommending and which ones to stay away from? I'll need a policy for 9 days in nov. and the Mex ins.
through gieco is Groupo National. They want $202 for the "deluxe" policy.

I should add that this includes a $5000 cargo trailer in the coverage.
BB was $218 for the same coverage.

I think you need a seperate policy for the trailer. Here, the trailer isn't considered an extension of the towing vehicle as it is in the states.

You might find an annual policy for about the same $ ... Would be wise if you take a second trip to Baja in the next 12 mos.!

There's another in San Diego, Oscar Padilla. Somebody in the family was posting here recently, but havn't seen him lately.
Their office is on India Street, across from the Mexican Consulate and I recommend to everybody who has time to go in there and look at the collection
of vintage TJ photos on the walls..........bullfights, celebrities, history. It's a fun trip.
I don't know anything about their insurance.

Hi Dennis....yes, that office is filled with wonderful memorabilia. It is my cousin Ruben Padilla's insurance office from where he conducts business
as a sub-agent of our's. Much of the photos are rooted in fact that Ruben's father, Ruben, Sr., was best friends with John Wayne. This friendship
accounted for a lifetime of incredible experiences, many of which were in the company of celebrity-types. One noted outcome of that friendship was
Wayne casting my uncle as General Santa Ana in "The Alamo" (1960). On several occasions my uncle brought Wayne for visits to our hometown, Calexico,
including an evening spent dining in our family home. Unfortunately, I was a toddler at the time, so no memory of it. My uncle was a great man and had
wonderful stories to tell.

I'm sure I met him there. We talked at length and discovered we were at Fort Ord in the early sixties, probably at the same time and possibly in the
same barracks. It is a small world.

Yes, Dennis, the "Fort Ord" connection would be with Ruben, Jr....a great, great guy who's life has been filled with terrific antecdotes he loves
pulling up a chair and sharing with other's. Unfortunately, I never was in Wayne's Newport Beach home. If I'm not mistaken, it's buyer leveled it,
where now stands a new home.

I find Lewis & Lewis having the best rates. Used them for years. never really needed them, so I don't know about emergency service when you need
it.

Join Vagabundos for $35 and buy insurance on their website. There are many testimonials about the positive experience that people have had with them.
I have been with them several years now and it is reasonable pricing for the truck and boat. It's easy to purchase from their website too. Plus you
run into people all over Baja that are members that will help you out if your in need. They have a place in Loreto for rental to members that's
reasonable.

We have been with Vagabundos for many years for auto and our boat. We did have an accident (uninsured driver) and the adjuster was out immediately
after calling, hauled me around to police station for paperwork, body shops, etc. (did cost me a beer tho). Had car (new 4Runner) repaired in the US
on the insurance. WE always get the Diamond plan as it includes legal coverage. Our sailboat was damaged in Hurricane Marty and Zurich insurance
bought through Vagabundos flew an adjuster down and covered repairs. Nice to be able to call Vag office for assistance too. Just now reordering
annual policy again for this year.

BajaBound?
This thread pops up often and I wonder how anyone can call an insurance company "good" or "great" unless they have had a claim or two. What else
really matters, when it comes to insurance???

Hookster. I have had BajaBound insurance for 3 years. I have never made a claim but---Geoff who is a member of Nomads and also participates his time
and sponsors several Nomad projects operates the San Diego office for BajaBound. I hope I never have to call him regarding a claim but have talked to
others here in Ensenada that have filed claims and they were very satisfied with all business transactions and claims the company processed. The last
company I used really jerked me around when I got rear ended prior to changing companies. The adjuster screwed me out of $150.00 that the other guy
payed and I never received. I called the company office and informed them about it but they said they trusted their employees and I was making it up.
I have investigated hundreds of millions of dollars in life insurance claims but I guess they just took the guys word for it.
I feel comfortable that Geoff would be there for his insurers especially when he can be reached by a simple phone call or a U2U or even a post here on
Nomad.
When you can reach someone like Geoff when you have a problem is a BIG asset. Or would you rather speak to a "voice" that will place your claim under
a stack next to the trash? I consider Geoff a friend as well as a business associate.

There are two major factors involved here. Of course, service is very important. But keep in mind, as Hook stated, the real service comes when you
actually have a claim. And that service is provided by the insurance carrier or their designee. Second issue is price. Prices are set by the carrier;
not the broker. So, when shopping for the best price, it is important to be able to obtain as many quotes (carriers) as possible. Iīve purchased
through several brokers over the years, including BajaBound. My experience is that the broker offering the widest number of carrier options is
Adventures in Mexico. I think itīs mexadventure.com , but not sure. Google Adventures in Mexico to find it.
