Any fans of Norteño?
After a number of years, I put on "Soy Parrandero" by Los Tucanes de Tijuana. Anyone else out there listen to Norteñas?

Not to mention that they sound like they're singing with clothespins on their noses.
I can't stand the racket.

Is it true that Lawrence Welk was the first norteno musician?

I guess you really ought to blame the Germans.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accordion#History
The accordion became so widespread and popular especially amongst the poorer folks mostly because it represented something akin to a one- man band.

all depends on what your drinking, eating and where you are...
have had the accordion, washboard, steel guitar, triangle, harmonica.. and other things which were used to make noise... sound pretty good while down
in Cajun county... doing some setting at the bar...
a different sound for sure.. but, it was fun.... boudin for everyone...

The clothespin on the nose stuff you refer to are corridos or "narco-corridos", interprted by the likes of Valentin Elizalde, Chalino Sanchez, and El
Chapo de Sinaloa to name a few. In my opinion this type of music almost always glorifies narcos and their way of life. I despise that type of music.
Norteñas typically tell a story of love, life on the road, or life on the ranch, etc. Go to youtube.com and look for the song "La Mesera", or "El
Chubasco", these are typical norteñas.

I love Norteño music!
And I'm really glad I like it, as I hear it all the time in my neighborhood in Loreto.
Hmmm... maybe if a study or poll were done we would learn that all of the crabby nomads-- at least the ones who live in Baja-- are the ones who can't
tolerate noteño

Can't Offer Any Music Critique
But, a few years ago, we were sitting with friends at an outside patio at a taco place in Cantamar.
A big, red Dodge pickup rolled in, the guys got out to order their meal, leaving the doors open and the music pounding.
One of our guests, a lovely, beautiful Tijuanense shrunk down in her seat and tried to disappear.
After the red truck left, she relaxed and explained that members of her family had been kidnapped and that that noise was the "Evil, Devil Music of
the Narcotrafficantes."

Probably narco-corridos or banda.
