getting through Tijuana
David K has posted a step by step guide to getting through immigration and Tijuana- can someone please get the link as I can't find it thanks. Been to
Baja Sur many times but for the last 20 years just flown in and this time we are driving and staying the year in La paz. And where would you stay in
Loreto- we know Baja Cactus is a good first stop but will drive the second day to Loreto. Norm

Norm,
The Inn at Loreto Bay has a special of $ 60.00 till Dec.15th. Hard to beat, nice place with ample safe parking. When are you coming down though, since
lots of hotel/motel space will be taken up during the Baja 1000 prerun and the actual race days ?
And will you have your wine collection with you. 
We're right down the street from the Inn, so if you get anywhere near us, give us a holler. 133-0343.
If push comes to shove, we can always put you up for the night.

MYSELF AND DIFFERENT FRIENDS HAVE STAYED AT HOTEL ANGRA IN LORETO THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND IT'S THE NEWEST AND NICEST BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH RATES
BETTER THAN THE OTHER BIG HOTELS. HOTEL ANGRA'S ROOMS ARE SUPER SPACIOUS AND EXTREMELY CLEAN ( NEWER ) WITH KING SIZE BEDS, SATELLITE TV, WIFI, AND
THE MOST WONDERFUL AND ACCOMODATING ENGLISH SPEAKING HOSTS. LARGE SECURED PARKING AND A COFFEE SHOP. THE LOCATION IS VERY QUIET AS WELL. A DEFINITE 10

You really don't need maps to get through the border. If you are coming down the 5 or 805, just make sure you get yourself all the way over to the
very right lane. That lane presents an automatic gate. drive in and park. Immigration is the right hand most office. The bank is several doors to the
left.
Upon leaving the parking area, move over to the second lane from the right, as the right lane runs off into town. go over the bridge and follow the
signage for Rosarito/ Ensenada Cuota. It will be a rather sharp right taking you down a ramp. Follow the highway along the fence and you will come to
a right hand on-ramp that will take you to the toll road.
As was mentioned in other posts, between the race crowd, and several hotels that have limited numbers of rooms, you really should make reservations in
advance. That would be particularly true for Baja Cactus. If you can't get in there, San Quintin, which is little more than a half hour North has a
number of decent and affordable accommodations. Jardines de Baja, Maria Celeste, Villas de San Quintin, Hotel Mission Santa Maria. All very reasonable
and quite good. Just mentioning this because if you can't get into Baja Cactus, virtually all of the San Quintin hotels I listed are far superior to
any other place in El Rosario.

My trip report was July 2009 with the photos of the border and INM office/ parking. I have reposted those photos a few times the past year... Not sure
if you want to see the original trip report (go to Nomad Baja Trip Reports Forum and scroll back to 2009 and look for Part 1 of Baja 709) or a more
recent post regarding Tijuana border crossing... (search 'border' by David K perhaps?).

Thanks David K and all who responded. Vandenberg-- no wine this time - tough choice for us clothes and supplies fishing gear or wine. It was a debate
that had no winner so the wine is still in the cellar and we will have clothes and my fishing gear while we a re in Baja Sur

Capitolkat, When do you expect to be in La Paz? We'll be having our semi annual clinic with the La Balandra Rotarians the first two weeks of
November. Being a rotarian yourself, you may want to meet these hombres, a really great group of folks!
