Hwy Construction Costs
Where is the dinero for all the new hwy construction coming from?? From Tecate to Cabo Hwy 1 is being expanded and laced with bridges and four lanes
of superhighway!! Lots of money , lots from a government fighting Drug Cartel Wars!! Foreign investment? Anybody have a clue and/or website
regarding the financing of this large project? I'm clueless.

Not just Hwy. 1, but a brand new Hwy. 5 north and south of San Felipe, and a new Hwy. 3 (which is the one that begins at Tecate). Hwy. 19 to Todos
Santos also doubled in size since it was first paved 30 years ago.

ever heard of the merida initiative? im guessing there is an accounting error or black hole from where the $400 million per year cannot be accounted
for or how it is spent is a little foggy......

No news reported in the SudCaliforniano? Someone must have deep pockets !$$$  Approximately 2yrs to build La Paz to Todos Santos section and then they
started right away on TS to Cabo. Tecate to Ensenada has been under construction for 2/3yrs, right? Any news reports in the Ensenada new?? It
appears the whole Peninsula hwy will be made over. The new Escalera Tierra not Nautica.  Tio

If you look at what and where the highway improvements are being done it all seems to point to the trucking industry and the need to move AG products
and services 24/7. I think we'll see expanded production and output from parts of Baja currently constrained by Hwy. 1's 2-lane inefficiency as it
forces truckers single file to plow through one small town after another to get to the border.

Maybe the cartels are paying so they can get more product north faster We have a running joke regarding"your drug dollars hard at work".
If they can pay to build a submarine what's a few dollars to improve the roads.

mexico's federal government revenue comes from taxes and pemex, and perhaps bonds/securities for debt spending (does fed run a deficit?). states
probably get their revenue from fed govt and local taxes.

Drove from La Paz to CAbo yesterday and the road south of Todos Santos is underway with a good portion from Pescadero south for about 25 km under
construction. They are putting bridges over most of the puentes and have figured out mostly about the diversions should be paved , but some rough
spots and then two lane for about 30 km and then work on the 4 lane continues into Cabo. Norm

Interesting to note that 2009 estimates show Mexico's public debt as a percentage of GDP to rank very close to the US. But in either case, there are
many countries in better shape.
