Puerto Penasco Pregunta

For any of you who have been down the "other side" recently. could you help out my friend Bob's neighbor?

"Charlie, my neighbor with the Swiss wife, is heading to the Mayan Palace, Puerto Penasco, on the mainland next week. We have been trying to find the best route & crossing. AAA, Google maps, etc. have been no help. Do you have any suggestions?"

Just wondering where they are coming from. The Mayan folks have been subsidizing a shuttle service from Phoenix.

El Jefe now lives on East Cape... Guess that is more fun than living in Carlsbad and working in Vista, 'eh Tom?

Seriously, do a Nomad search... as there was recent talk about the best way to Rocky Point (Pto. Peņasco)... lots of opinions... I think the new highway between El Golfo de Santa Clara and Puerto Peņasco would be the way.

Now there are various ways of getting to El Golfo... Since your friend is in Baja... and I will guess he won't be coming through Gonzaga Bay.. He will be on Hwy. 2-D...

South on Mex. 5 to BC #4 to short cut across the delta... Or to San Luis RC then south to El Golfo.

The new highway junction is about 1 mile before El Golfo... Photos and details were posted here a couple years ago when the highway was finished.

What a dope I am. Among other things. Sorry for the lack of specificity. They will be coming from Orange County California.
Bob emailed me this AM knowing I am such an "expert" on things Mexican. Hah.

LOL, not your neighbor.. but your friend Bab's neighbor!! Your friend is over 1,000 miles north... as is his neighbor, right?!!

So, same plan.. south to Mexicali and on south on Mex. 5 to BCN Hwy. 4 or East on Mex. 2 to San Luis Rio Colorado, then south... one mile before El Golfo, take the new road.

If it were me, I would take the shuttle if there is one from the direction you are traveling. I saw it posted that a late model pickup truck was parked next the guard post at one of the new, luxurious hotels, and it was gone the next day. Nobody saw "anything."

This convinced me not to risk driving my Rubicon there in July. I camped with my wife south of San Felipe with David K and Baja Angel instead. :!:
