Anyone consider 'Couch Surfing' for their next Baja adventure?

I saw this on cable - a website called www.couchsurfing.org where people sleep on people's couches for free and don't have to pay for lodging. Pretty interesting concept if you think about creative ways of adhering to an inexpensive travel budget, IMO.

Have any Nomads heard of this?

Yes, I've met many fine people who've visited Mulege as couchsurfers.
All friendly, all adventurous, all from different walks of life!

Its good. Its safe.

One time we found a piece of plywood and towed it behind the quad to see how long we could stay standing.

Does that qualify?

No worries

Our house used to be registered in the Bikecentennial book way back when. Cyclists from all over would come and stay for free. We loved it, met some great people.

I think many of us did that before there was a name for it! and a means...the internet!

It goes like this...someone will say, "When you get to Little Rock, look up my friend Jane...you can crash there! Then Jane will say when I call...WHO sent you? I haven't heard from them in years...Oh well, come on over!

(True story circa 1979)

Mom always told me to be different - Now she says...Not THAT different

Jean's story rings true and might be a fun way for we Nomads to meet one another.

However, coachsurfers.org is a loose/but tight operation with inherent safeguards in place which protect the surfer and couch-provider.

Everyone must register. There are no "drop-ins" allowed. You work to a somewhat flexible schedule. The visitor solicits housing on-line ahead of time and is pre-approved and expected by their host.
