In Feb. we will be driving to Guerrero Negro for whale watching. Do we need to obtain a Tourist Card?

x 2

and the three reasons why:

1) You are not a Mexican, plus either or both:
2) You will be in Mexico over 72 hours and
3) You will be south of the 'border zone'.

There's enough time to get a passport if you haven't already as well.

I think I mentioned it on another thread recently. Not only are there expedited passport for additional fee programs, but a friend of mine actually got same day service at the Federal building in West LA. Walked in at 7am and walked out with a passport at 3pm. And this was not a renewal. It was their first ever passport. Did not know it could be done. One caveat. They ask that you make an appointment. Not sure about walking in without one.

It is my understanding you can get an fmm/
Tourist Card with the Passcard, which is only
good for land/sea crossings, instead of
the Passport, although for $70 more you get
a Passport. I suppose if you are already member
of Discover Baja and which I assume you buy
their Mex Auto Ins, otherwise you are paying
something like $39 to join and approx $32 to buy
a pre paid tourist card/fmm. Which the fmm
is $22 at the Mex Immigration Border crossings
I've never seen the benifit of the pre paid card,
and I know you don't have to wait another 2 min
at Mex immigration

Yes ....welcome to the BN....... lwpa

I have all the answers for you...except this one!

If you never seen a whale...they're breath taking! Worth the effort to go down there. Have fun on your trip. Lots of great places to stay at, too...just ask us here at the BN.

Maybe a little bit wrong. If you don't have one, the extraction of fun tickets from your wallet will be their decision. You will get your document, but you will pay a price.
Don't ask how much. Nobody here knows.

Just do the right thing from the start.

Just a couple things would make it better:

1) Having it come from INM (Federal Dept. of Immigration) of Mexico instead of BajaQuest.com

2) Defining where the 'Border Zone' ends.

Thank you for sharing, however!

Yup. No need to define the extent of the border zone if one is going to Guerrero Negro since you'll have crossed the state line.

So are YOU saying for certain that all of Baja Norte is in the border zone and only crossing into Baja Sur (on Hwy. 1 anyway) is call to get a tourist card if you are staying for 72 hours or less?
