Car Rental Agencies- Loreto- Your experience?

I have family flying in from the States for a 10 day visit to Mulege.

I'm in need of advice from those who've ever rented a Car from the Loreto Airport.

The good, the bad and the ugly... all replies much appreciated!

We have had good experiences with Budget in Loreto. And once we had our own car in Loreto and didn't need to rent anymore, their on-site mechanics who are experienced with Jeeps, came to our rescue in their off hours when our Jeep needed repair. The entire staff was wonderful and helpful and even drove 3 hours round trip to get a part. I highly recommend them.

Feathers,
Just remembered Donna (the one who has the place right across the lagoon from you) rented one last year, you may want to check with her.

Are there still a few car rental places across from the malecon? Would prices be different? I shopped among 3 and picked a VW bug once for a good weekly rate. Try to figure out if the daily mileage will be adequate versus unlimited mileage which might cost more. Check the daily rates versus two weeks (i.e., one week rate plus 3 days OR two weeks and turn it in early). And remember, if you turn the car in past the hour of the day of your contract, you will be charged a full day and a full day of insurance. So read the contract. You might try an online reservation, and if they don't make you put down a deposit, a back-up reservation somewhere else (just in case they play games with you).

Loreto car rental

I recommend making a reservation. You'll get a firm price quote. I just returned from there and use Eurocar with great results. Another guy just walked in and wanted a car and wasn't being given as good of rate I got by reserving online. They didn't ask for a deposit when I made the reservation.

I agree with Mulegeray. A couple of weeks ago I made a reservation on line (through Alaska Airlines website) for Eurocar. It was supposed to be picked up a the airport but wound up getting it in town. Very cheap and it ran great and it was a late model but it was really banged up and looked like a piece of sh-t.

Anyway, make a reservation on line, bring the printout of the reservation with you and you will get a much better deal.

Now for the big thing, insurance. It is very expensive and good luck trying to figure out which plan is best for you.
