Puerto Lopez Mateos recreational boat closure during whale season

Back in Feb. '93 I camped at Puerto Lopez Mateos a few nights with some friends. We had the place to ourselves and boated over to one of the islands to fish. Then in 2005(?) we were there again, but we weren't allowed to put our kayaks in because the area was closed to recreational boating because in was whale season. At the time, we were told it was for February only and that we could put-in at the mangroves.
My question is -- is this still the situation? Is the closure for February only? Is camping allowed there anymore? I'm planning a camping trip out there and would like to know what dates I can count on to camp, explore by boat and fish.
Thanks Nomads for any help.

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

So, by chance, can anyone give me a cooperative link or hotel that could provide me this info?
Thanks again.

Hotel Brennan is not in Lopez Mateos and I doubt staff there would have any insights about recreational boating in PLM during whale watching season.

Bob and Diana Hoyt at Mag Bay Outfitters might. http://www.magbayoutfitters.com/

Over the past 7 or 8 years I have launched my boat in Lopez and run north to Boca de Soledad, or south down the estero to the Entrada to San Carlos, and then outside to the Pacific to fish for pelagics countless times during whale watching season. I have never had any problems launching in Lopez Mateos. It is clear, however, that I am fishing and not harassing the whales or interfering with the activities of the whale watching co-op. Kayaking or other "recreational boating" in the estero around PLM during whale watching season may well be another matter. The whale watching co-op is very protective of their turf. I imagine that Bob and/or Diana Hoyt can tell you what the situation is likely to be when you plan to visit, or put you in touch with somebody who can.

Okay, here's what Bob Hoyt had to say --

The area from Boca de Soladad to about 2 miles south of Lopez are closed when whales are there. This closure is for kayaks or other boats whose purpose is to watch the whales.
If you are renting a boat for example to go fishing or to go on an adventure to the island there are no restrictions only not to interfere with the whale watching. Hope this is of some help. I will be there during that time if you have futher questions. Bob
