Has anyone actually gone camping with all the stuff on that awesome list?

ditto on that. I've taken a portable winch with me for years and never needed it, but I'm afraid to leave it at home.

should I rent a cellphone for a month OR buy a calling card & which one(s) . .Thanks for the help so far. . .!!!!

There is one on the U.S. side of the border, I think... I never have used it... everybody takes dollars in Baja, happily... they only wish there were
more!
I still don't know where you are going in Baja... cell service is very limited and non-existant beyond El Rosario until Guerrero Negro. I think
AT&T works well in Mexico, Sprint only works in the cities of Tijuana, Ensenada and San Quintin.
Others will chime in here with better cell info.

. . .Hopefully leaving towards end of Feb. and headed as far south as La Paz, driving a GMC 4x4, an exploratory trip as I'd like to haul RV down
sometime in future. Speak some Spanish, don't need much in way of amenities / Mexican standards are fine with me, and, am solo so will be setting my
own pace. . .Thanks David K. . . . . And suggestions on cell phone or phone card appreciated!!!

Before your trip go to the Chula Vista Costco and buy your pesos there... an exchage window is inside near the registers... I-5, Palomar exit, west to
Broadway, then turn north... on your left side.

On the US side at the Tecate border, in the small retail mall with the gas station, there is a convenience store that sells insurance and exchanges
currency.

The road is truly narrow. Practice some driving on the right side white line.

Camped next to Canadians with RV Cat problems. Not good.

man, roadhog, you gave some good suggestions. at the risk of getting yelled at for tooting my own horn: come and visit la bocana .... we are halfway
between San Diego and Cabo. Fill up tank in Vizcaino. Continue south and exit right towards Punta Abreojos. Once in Abreojos, take a right on Calle
Miguel Dominguez. Follow salt flats til La Bocana. Look for 2 story white house at the north end of Calle Erizo or ask anyone for Blanca and Les
(esp kids). We are very remote and tiny and I think you will like it here.
