Slingbox or Monsoon technology
We finally got a land line and internet DSL connection at the fishin' shack and were wondering if anyone out there has explored or is using Slingbox
or Monsoon technology.
From what we understand, a stateside satellite TV service (Dish, DirectV) can be accessed over the internet at one's humble Baja abode. That would be
lovely, if true. And yes, we are pricing the "internet ready" TV's at Costco.
Anyone?

I am bring a Slingbox down next month..
It is hooked up to a DirectTV box up in Oceanside for service.
Will run a small HDMI notebook into a 27" monitor for picture and sound.. The picture quality on Slingbox seems to go away when you get into larger
monitors..
Will give an update, once it is up and working..
They are also now marketing an HD Slingbox in the stores..

Wouldn't work with the 512 speed DSL This was a couple of years ago. But maybe with a 1024 or 2048 (if that's available) it may work.

It's good to know about monitor size.
And we signed up for the highest speed DSL that Carlos Slim provides in Loreto.
My girlfriend in Loreto just called and says that the Monsoon is so much better than the Slingbox that they are calling it the "God Box".

we use slingbox in Los Barriles. It works fine on lowest speed telmex DSL.

I have sling box and have used it in San Felipe and on a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta. I know that the speed in PV was very slow. It worked but
sometimes with many hickups. In SF I have Telcel Amigo Internet and have a 3g router and it worked great, however, due to the cost of MB's and I have
directv at my casa, I did it just to see how well it worked. It was solid, but, the 3g system is a bunch faster than Telnor DSL in SF, so I think you
will be fine. Hooking it up to a TV sucks. The picture is designed to be on a descent monitor and depending on what resolution you are pumping out.
