Which road to take...San Ignacio to Scorp. Bay???

We're considering zig zagging down the coast from Bahia Asuncion to visit La Purisima. I seem to remember the west road OK except after a rain. Any new reports?

That's pretty much it. The salt flats unless it's too wet from any recent rains.

When we were down last week, there had not seemed to have been much rain that far south - but we did not take this specific western route heading south this year.

Next week, you may bump into Mike, Don-Kay, and Solo as they walk from San Ignacio to La Purisima.

They will be on some roads not shown on the AAA map between El Patrocinio and San Jose de Gracia, if things go as planned.

I can see a road or trail on Google Earth between El Patrocinio and San Jose de Gracia. I would be interested in Mike's take on it. It comes out to a junction maybe 5 miles from San Jose de Gracia toward the main (San Juanico) road another 2 miles.

On his route map, I drew in the roads that AAA didn't show (with dashed lines)... including the Baja 1000 route down to El Cuarenta you had mentioned...

My understanding is Mike is taking the high road where there are the most ranches and water... El Patrocinio to San Jose de Gracia...

I did see a ranch about 10 miles from El Patrocino at an arroyo crossing on Google Earth and it was dated Feb 2010.

I drove it in May last year after all of the rains that winter and aside from a few rough spots, it was fine. One vehicle in our group was only 2WD and hauling a HEAVY trailer full of race fuel and pit equipment and he had some difficulties, mostly trying to keep up with the rest of us. I wouldn't try and drive a Miata through there, but any standard truck or SUV should be fine.
