declaring , max amount
Good morning all,Happy to say leaving the winter wonder land , Tahoe, Thursday. Crossing Tecate Fri am. Will declare as usual but am bringing some
furniture for the princess. Actual value near 1000.00 us What is my max Will have adjusted receipts for the load and letter to the Aduana Thank you

$3000 is what they told me. We recently built a home and hauled everything down but the slab and the bricks with 0 problems. We use Mexicali East as a
crossing and is extremely simple for Declaration.
The Bank only accepts Pesos so get them from the Peso exchange at Tecate on the left just before you enter the border.

I am with you!!!! Mexicali East is the only way to go. We took our house things through there also and adjusted our receipts. He just said "how
much is it all worth?" We answered what we thought it was worth and "worked" it out from there what we thought was fair. WE had lots of used things
that we could not put a value on. It kind of depends who is there that day. One time they said that if we don't need a receipt it would be a couple
of hundred dollars less.......heck we dont need a receipt!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting (and scary) reading if the rules are ever enforced to the letter of the law.
Ex: By Land - Fine of 130 to 150% of the unpaid duties, siezure of the undeclared goods, and siezure of the VEHICLE used to transport the goods!
Somebody else please read this declaration form and confirm that my old eyes are not deceiving me and that is what it actually says ....

We know the rules for declaration and are always ready to abide by them but it never turns out that way. Once it even happen IN the office while
doing the paperwork that we were offered less for cash....and no reciept. We told our contractor as he asked us how much we paid to get our things
through and he was embaressed and could hardly believe us.

That's the way the old regime did business although I'm surprised it happened in the office.
This may still be the procedure for some cases, but not near as prevalent as it used to be.

I imported this load (shown at Dixieline San Diego after loading) early November this year to be used as decking material. Now the value was only
about $700 but many a load went in for well over $1000.

Yeah...waddya gonna do? I met a Mexican customs inspector at the TJ gate who lived in a nice neighborhood in Chula Vista. I wonder where he lives
today.

OK....what was the tariff?

Man....This is definitly the end of that old Baja feeling when one could take a house through the border stick by stick.
I have to start recording my memories of those good ol' days. It's all that's left.

You need also be aware of the limits where you cross.
For instance, if the valuation is over $1,000 (generally) and you attempt to cross at San Ysidro customs will redirect you to Otay Mesa. I wouldn't
automatically assume that someone crossing with a $3,000 valuation at Mexicali would mean you could do the same at Tecate.

For that load from Dixieline with original receipt was somewhere around $700 dollars and the duty was $82 dollars. (Although paid in Pesos at the Bank
as they no longer accept U.S. Dollars)
In and out in 7 minutes at Mexicali East. Alone.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

In many cases, it's a matter of finding decent wood to work with. That lumber on the trailer appears to be around twenty feet long. Not all yards in
Baja have that.
Besides, building one's own house is a rite of passage. A "man" thing.
