motoged, if you are taking the short road from San Jose de Comondu to San Javier I would love to hear about the road condition. Someone told me very recently that it is impassible even by motorcycle. I hope you have a good ride.

You have narrowed it down to two very nice hotels, and Iguana Inn is also a good place to stay~~ enjoy your time in Loreto!

Coco Cabaņas

Just to be sure we are on the same page... Coco Cabaņas was nice, quiet.... real 'Baja Sur' feeling... so no negitive with that part.

I thought for the old room and small beds (a twin and a full) that $89 was bit high... just my comment... and remember, I have Baja Cactus at $35 night with huge luxury beds to compare value to... It is in Loreto, and that is a destination city... so the value for rooms is greater... specially in summer when other motels are closed.

It would be a great place for a Viva event... if we could rent all the rooms... a Viva Baja Loreto!

Paula,
My ride plan out of Mulege is to explore the inland route south through San Jose de Guajademi to San Isidro, overnight in La Purisima, and then south from San Isidro to San Jose/San Miguel Comondu to San Javier.

The notion that it is not possible even by motorcycle only makes it all that more attractive...

I will be there the last 1/2 of February and will post a ride report later w/ pics...

Ged, we took that road about 5 years ago in my Subaru Forrester and lived to tell about it:lol: I loved it and want to go that way again sometime, and motorcycle or ATV is probably the best way. I didn't mean to say that you couldn't or shouldn't do it:dudette: Have fun, and for sure post those pictures!

Paula,
I have no idea why folks think the San Jose Comondu road is rough....

I did that ride last May ouly in reverse. It is very passable by a good off-road bike. If you have a big Adventure bike it might be a hndful on some of the sections, but an experienced rider can do it. I was riding a WR 450 Yamaha and it was a blast. Have fun.

I gave up rising my 1100 GS to Baja years ago after three trips....no good in the sand and real rough stuff.

hey Ged...just left San Miguel de Comondu this morning...LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!! We stayed with Negrita in a big room for 150 pesos...just beside the new cancha...next to the burros...her son Vladimir makes the most amazing pomagranate wine...ask for a glass of the anejo...aged for 3 years. I bought a gallon of it as well as a couple bottles of incredible grape vino that is more like brandy at the tecate store at the entrance to town. Tell them shari & juan sent you...stay the night there...you wont be disappointed!

in LOreto, we always stay at Sol y Mar which is on the edge of the big arroyo...i think it was 250 or maybe 300 pesos now...nice room...park outside your room...great value if you are just looking for a place to sleep. We love it there on the weekend as there is a huge farmers market thing across the street...great food!

Ged, on one of your rides, would you check out the first site of the Comondu mission if you take the old main road north from San Jose Comondu? Take some photos of the ruins and overall area? It is called Comondu Viejo since the mission was moved in 1736 after being there for 28 years...

Photo taken by Jack Swords at ruins of the original location, now called Comondu Viejo. The mission was moved in 1736 to the visita of 'San Ignacio', 22 miles south. The mission name was not changed with the move. GPS: 26°16'27.4" 111°43'08.5"

I'm actually at Angra right now. First time here, very nice family runs the hotel. Super clean, TV, AC, internet, hot water, continental breakfast and secure parking. Was very quiet last night. I'd definitely recommend it.

I made the reso for him at the Angra and $670 is the rate- and that's with tax already included. They don't take credit cards but Banamex is around the corner.

Yes it was $670.00 pesos. Had to stay another night because car repairs took most of the day. Didn't have time to drive home before dark. They held my room for me because they were sure I would be back!
