Car rental companies in Loreto?

Hola amigos,

I'll be visiting the northern BCS area next month and am hoping to rent a car in Loreto (either downtown or at the airport). But it seems that some of the car rental companies that used to do business there no longer do so. I was under the impression that at least the following companies had offices in Loreto: Hertz (or Advantage), Budget, Avis, National, and Europcar. However, I've confirmed by phone that only Avis and Europcar are still there. Budget and National both claim not to have an office in Loreto, and the office for Hertz is closed until September 2011.

Has anyone here had recent experience renting a car in Loreto and can you confirm or contradict this information?

Muchas gracias,
Olaf

I guess that I'm most interested in whether Budget still has a location in Loreto. If I remember right, the customer service of their (old?) office in Loreto was highly touted on this message board. And the latest version of the Moon Handbook lists it as being in Loreto, along with Hertz and Europcar.

Budget has a phone listed in the (gringo) phone book, but I just called them for you and the person who answered said that they had changed the name (?!) to Fox Rental Car and that they did not have an office at the airport.

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Thanks a bunch for checking that for me! It's sounding like a number of car rental companies have pulled out of town - perhaps because Loreto hasn't drawn as many tourists as expected?
