Money Exchange(Cambio) st TJ Border crossing
I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but I couldn't find it using the search tool. Is there a money exchange, not a Bank, in the Mexican
Immigration area where you obtain your Tourist Card? I want to exchange around $500 U.S. to pesos. Many thanks

Yes. Next to the bank - between the Immigration office and the bank. Maybe get $250 exchanged there and see if there is a better rate in Ensenada or
San Quintin (if you're headed in that direction) - which was my experience.

I thought bank exchange rates were all the same. I know that bank fees differ. Here, the fee to use an HSBC ATM today is 20+ Pesos. Banamex charges
27+ Ps.

I am going to Ensenada, however I have been there many times and have yet to see a cambio. Do you know where one is?

They're here and there. If you can find the large shopping center at the intersection of Delante and Reforma, used to be the big Gigante Shopping
Center, now Sorianna's, there a Cambio in there.
Just keep your eyes open while you drive through town. There a quite a few more Cambios today than there were ten years ago.
Don't know where you are coming from, but the Costco on Broadway in Chula Vista has a good Cambio on/in premises. Their rate is as good or better than
any other I'm aware of.

There are many places now with a standardized neon sign with the buy/sell rates displayed. If I remember correctly, they're green and red. Once you
see one, you'll start to notice them as you drive south. I saw a couple on the main drag around where the cruise ships used to tie up.

| It is my understanding that the rates here are good - but possibly not the "best" you can
find near the border. For a couple hundred bucks, nothin' to worry about.
It seems the overwhelming draw to using this location is the:
A) Convenience of shopping at Costco - and killing two birds with one stone.
B) The parking lot at Costco - RV's and those with long trailers, etc.
C) The perceived safety of making the transaction at Costco versus one of the other locations closer to the border.
Seems like - including with me - the most popular locations closer to the border are the Baja-Mex locations. Some like the convenience of the place
on Camino de la Plaza. I like the rates of the one that's specifically a money exchange on San Ysidro Blvd, just east of I-805. There's also a place
next to this one on San Ysidro Blvd (same side of the street) that competes with them on rates ("Express"?).
Make sure you use a "no commission" (or "no comision") location when you use these services. Sometimes the commission charged at the other places
makes it more worthwhile to have just spent your US dollars SOTB.

Could you pls. give me direction off San Ysidiro Blvd and the name of the cambio you mentioned. Also, do are there any Chevron Gas Stations in the
area to gas up before entering Baja?

Jes kiddin'. I'm watching very little of it myself. I've already been overwhelmed by the commercials and whoever that was that sang the National
Anthem was really bad. I used to complain about some of the Black artists who would turn it into a soul song and here this blond gal outdid them all
in the "no class" department...even had she been able to carry a tune.
Who was that?

Best National Anthem
I agree with you Dennis........I get tired of "singers" trying to personalize or customize the National Anthem.
In my opinion, the best was Whitney Houston at Super bowl 25 in 1991.

Wanted to jump through the screen and b-tch-slap her.
Supposedly, the idea is to lead the audience in the singing of our National Anthem. Who-the-hell could sing along with that?
And...HEY...WTF????
I'm back to being an 'elite' nomad? This is WAY confusing. I may have to hang myself.

Dibs on your motorcycle.
Christina Aguilera? Gawwwwd...what a mess. Why, when in Dallas, would she try to sound like she's in an East Harlem piano bar?
I wonder if she's legal.

There's a Chevron on San Ysidro Blvd on the opposite (west) side of the 805.
