c-cktail, anyone?
I think that's what the subject line was.
And the topic was: no alcohol sales this Sunday. It's official: I spoke to the folks at Malarrimo (Guerrero Negro) and they confirmed no alcohol
sales after noon Saturday.
Sooo..., I need some assistance. I presume we can find a good liquor store as we roll through San Quintin on Friday. (Any suggestions?)
Also, I love good wine and know pretty much nothing about Baja wine. Again, any connoisseurs in the crowd who can point me in a direction or 3?

STOP AT THE DUTY FREE SHOP BEFORE YOU CROSS THE BORDER
There's one very near the border in San Ysidro (last exit on west side of fwy. - by pedestrian crossing) and Calexico (on right just before crossing)
and at most every major crossing city. They are well stocked with many top shelf spirits, wines and beers and the prices are excellent.
I've never had a problem when purchasing numerous bottles and carrying them across the border. I never 'HID' my purchase, just had it on the floor or
seat with all my other coolers, etc.

I haven't found too many great wines in Mexico If you can make it by Costco in TJ
or Ensenada they have a nice selection of Spanish, Italian and South American wines. I like Garnacha de Fuego from there for about 10 bucks. Also,
we've bought a couple Tempranillos that were good.

Wine is a very personal taste type of item but there is a variety of labels to be found in a couple of dozen liquor stores scattered around San
Quintin. There are also several markets along the highway that have a selection so I would think you should be able to find something.
I usually buy from Don Chuy, on the right side in Lazaro Card##as as you head south...

Mega Comercial in Rosarito
If you are going through Rosarito, this is an easy off-and-back on Hwy 1D (the Toll Road).
Go in the right-hand side door, the wine and spirits section is straight ahead, on your right, just past the bakery and cakes section (you might want
to pick up pastries, as well).
Large selection of Mexican, Chilean. Spanish, American and Italian wines with flags of the country posted on the wooden racks. If you want cheap and
cheerful, they have soft-pack, 1-liter Baja wines, white and red, on the back shelves.
They take pesos, dollars, ATM and credit cards and the exchange rate is very fair.
Don't forget to tip the kid that bags your purchase - she/he is working without pay.
Look for the giant orange pelican silhouette sign on the left as you go south.

Will the saloons be open on Superbowl Sunday? I will be In Loreto and was hoping to catch the game and a buzz at Augies.
By the way, I strongly recommend LA Cetto Nebbiolo. Very nice wine and I will put it up against any California wine that sells for a lot more than
the $13-$18 that you have to pay for it in Baja.

Well, I guess I'll have to try the LA Cetto Nebbiola! Seems to be the unanimous choice! I've done a lot of wine tasting in Baja and never found
anything that I really love and what I've liked was really overpriced. I do enjoy going to the wineries, they are quite beautiful and the annual wine
festival is a lot of fun. I particularly enjoy the Tengo night. Thanks for the nice Nebbiola tip

Never tried Nebbiola. I've had Cetto Cabernet though, and it's pretty good.

This a message I just received from Del Borracho, a local friendly eatery and watering hole:
We have been informed that on Sunday, which is Superbowl, we will be allowed to serve alcoholic beverages to Americans ONLY and that is limited to 4
drinks per person. Sorry, but it is election day and we have no control. We will still party as planned with free chicken wings, 10 peso hotdogs, 10
peso draft beer and lots of great prizes for our raffle.

Well, we made it down and back. Great trip (of course). I had asked at Malarrimo about booze on election day. They had appealed to th' gov't (since
they cater mostly to Gringos) but got turned down. Since we were there for StupidBowl Sunday, we stocked up on the way in.
They said the bar would close at noon on Saturday but it was open into the evening. Sunday there was not a drink to be had (in the whole town near as
I know). We sat out front with our beers and they kicked us out. True it's posted no alcohol brought in, but usually that would be to protect their
sales. Anywho we moved our party over into the area surrounded by the motel modules, cobbled some co-ax together to get a tv outside (gee, we forgot
our co-ax cable <g>), and had ourselves quite a fine party.
