Driving down w/ FM-2 & Flying back Commerically

Thanks to David K. as to helping me with fix my original theme "header".

I have not driven down and flown back commerically since I received my plastic FM-2 last year and was curious as to the procedure. As usual, Baja Nomads are here to assist. Appreciate the responses!

Oops...driving down with fm 2 and flying back

What is the procedure? I would be crossing at tj and flying back from loreto. Do I need to fill out the Form and return at the ticket counter in lore to?

There'll be a fee! The folks at the airport will walk you through it for a fee. They'll provide the paprwork for a fee. A fee is the operative word.

"Notable" seems to be subjective. One has 542 posts, the other has 2304, but soulpatch has 1862 and is "ultra". Can a person buy his way into heaven?

You can buy a little bit of heaven at Anthony's. :D

It doesn't really matter. I was just wondering what was going on.

1) When you drive down you'll stop at the border and get your passport stamped.

2) when you leave, you'll go to the airport, go to the check in desk at your airline check your baggage and begin to check in, they will hold your bag and your seat and tell you to go to the INM desk which is at another location which is typically where you arrive at the Alaska terminal in SJD, you walk to the location where everyone is arriving and exiting after picking up their luggage and there you will be escorted back to INM to cut in line and get your exit form, (there is no fee) it will be filled out by you with your passport number and your FM-2 number and your lucrative activity if any and then you will carry that back all the way to the check in desk and you will cut in line again and hand it back to the agent you previously checked in with, then you will checked in 100%, your bag which was sitting there behind the desk will then be placed on the luggage belt to send it to the plane and then you can walk to the departure gate.

Since this takes a little more time give yourself 15 minutes extra for this and do not expect any of your family who do not have fm-2s to come with you since they will not be authorized to cross back through the arrival gate to INM as is required by you, meet your group at the departure gate.

If you are confused make a flight check in person walk you and hold your hand while you cry like a baby.

Have fun,

P.S. if you are real savvy you can demand a FMM tourist visa fee refund form for the cost on your ticket, it will be a form that you include a copy of the ticket and the purchase receipt, mail it in and you will be mailed a refund for the $22 or whatever the amount is.

P.S.S all this is subject to change depending on your departure location, I might guess if you're Juan de Rio from San Juanico then you are flying to Loreto where it might be a bit different but the steps are the same.

P.S.S.S I might be confused, but in the past I think you had to keep this exit form copy receipt until you returned again and got your passport stamped where you return this receipt, this is a small yet important detail. Keep the receipt in your passport.

Gnukid outlined the procedure pretty well. What I would add is that it sounds like you got your FM2, and then drove out. If that's the case then you probably didn't get stamped out. So as far as any paperwork in Mexico is concerned, you are still in Mexico. In that case I would skip getting stamped back in when you drive down. Then just follow the process he described at the airport.

Also I don't think they will charge you anything for the FMM when you fly out of Mexico.

I too agree with both gnukid and jeffg. I also agree there "should not" be a fee for the FMM...unless you are an airline employee/retiree then you will be charged an airport tax fee at the ticket counter when you are checking-in. The $22 gnukid is talking about is the Mexican Departure Fee and by having a FM2/3 or Mexican citizenship you are not charged this fee. Everyone...including Mexicans have to pay airport tax fee.

The fee Cyress mentioned should be built into the commercial airline ticket Juan is buying. Then like gnukid suggested one can try to recoup the Mexican Departure Fee from the airline.

Thank you all!

Great suggestions and good advice. I appreciate the input by all the Nomads!

Captain Mike: thanks for the offer. I was thinking about taking a small truck down, but the return would have to be quick and the run down would most likely be really last minute.

Don't check in at the Border. Just keep driving through. They will never know you even have a fm2. Just keep driving. If anyone asks just say you are going to Rosarito or Ensenada. You may even say that you were in Tijuana and now driving back home to BCS. If you fly out to TJ on Volaris no need to go to IMM. If you fly to back to the States then by all means you have to check in.

I know of people who fly from SJD to TJ and then walk across the border and reverse the trip when they go home. Nobody asked them anything and at the Airport in TJ they just tell them that they came to town to visit.

If they ask then just say you are going to the Docter's in TJ. They didn't take you FMM becuase you weren't leaving Mexico.
