turis card's in b.c.s.
HOLA,a lady friend drove down from canada and did not get a turist card...she is flying out next week,,, should she try and apply at the san jose air
port or the san jose del cabo port captain's....any suggestion's are welcomed!!! thank's in advance......

Mex Immigration USUALLY collects fmm's when you board
an international flight out of Mex. I have heard of people,
in this case, children who did not have an fmm, and their
parents had to pay the fmm fee before boarding.
If it was me, I might go to the Mex Immigration office and claim I lost
the fmm, maybe slight fib, and ask for a replacement,
you have to pay the $22, that MIGHT work

Before they had computers that might have worked, but have my doubts it'll work now. And if they think you're trying to pull a fast one ( and they
ain't stupid ) they probably triple the fine.

Another reason their should be big signs at the border informing tourists what is required to be in Mexico (over 72 hours or south of the 'border
zone').
In the 'old days', at Maneadero there was an ALTO sign on a billboard for tourists to pull over at the INM office set up on the side of the road.
There was no excuse for ignorance then... Of coarse the tourist cards were free so no needing to find a bank, either!

My recollection is that the airline personnel at the counter confiscate the visas at time of check in. Always thought that since the vast majority of
people boarding at SJD for points North were returning on a round trip, the airline was merely accounting for the visas issued on the way down.
Before going to immigration, I give a shot at calling the airline to see exactly what their policy is. It's all about getting a boarding pass.

Probably the safest way is to have the lady smile at the migra and tell him that she did not know the regulations about the tourist card and "How do I
do this right?" If she puts on an air of honest confusion and smiles a bit I'll bet the migra won's say a word while he helps her fill out an FMM
form.

It IS a big deal & there's a $1,000 - 1,500 peso fine for making it this far south without
an FMM....just ask Bajabass! I sincerely doubt they'll let her board without paying to get an FMM AND paying the fine at an official
payment place....NOT into the agent's hand!
I also recommend she go to Immigration ASAP & be totally honest before she tries to fly out.

I'd go to the main INM office in town....when Bajabass flew in from TJ sans FMM, the agent at the airport held him until the area was totally empty of
passengers, "sold" him an FMM, charged him a fine & escorted him out of the secure area. I questioned the agent on Bajabass not needing to go to
the bank to pay the fee & fine. The agent assured me "No problemo, es no neccesito por banco!" I took Bajabass straight into
town to INM where we spoke with the jefe, who informed us the FMM & receipt were not valid, nor was the fine the correct amount.
They called the airport & had the agent come into INM, where the total amount was given back to Bajabass & a valid FMM issued. We went to the
bank to pay both the fee & fine, took the paperwork back to INM for final authorization stamp.
Do it right, don't take any shortcuts or pay anywhere other than the bank & she'll be able to fly out without any problems.

If she takes that route....she can't admit she was outside of the FMM required area (I believe south of Ensenada), or they'll still require she buy an
FMM & pay the fine for not having gotten one in the first place. Not promoting lying to US border agents....simply stating fact.

I belive that she has already bought a airline ticket,,so that's the way she has to leave and I would asume that she dosnt want to leave her two
little girl's, longer than nesscery...so any suggestion's are very helpful...thank's nomad's

US Border Agents don't inquire about Mexican visas. All one needs is a passport or although not strictly legal, positive ID.

I understand the last post..but she will be getting on a plane in san jose del cabo airport and I think that they ask for your turist card>>>
did they stop asking for those?? that's the proplem, this end, not the u.s.!!

People lose/have stolen, passports, wallets, fmm's,
I'm sure it is somewhat common. I'm not a firm believer
that Mex immigration tracks entries, I'm certainly
not sure that asking for a replacement on a LOST
fmm, that Mex Imm would search their computers
and find no fmm issued for the person in question
under that persons passport #and that
sirens would then go off,
Mex imm USUALLY collects fmm's on departure
on an International flight out of Mex,
it appears to be
pure speculation on the above replies as to what
would happen if asked for an fmm, and not being
able to hand them 1

We drove down once and the immigration in TJ didn't issue us FMTs for my young daughters. We flew home and the airline agent at the airport in Cabo
wanted their papers. We were sent to the immigration, at the airport, and the girls were issued the FMTs. The immigration didn't charge us a fine,
and in fact gave us the visas 2 for 1 ($22 for both). I think the girls were about 6 and 3 at the time. This was about 3 or 4 years ago.
I would go to the immigration in town, Cabo San Lucas, and explain the situation and find out what was needed. She should probably get FMT's for her
husband and girls too!
