Baja Mexican Auto Insurance - Which Company Is Best
[B]Baja Mexican Auto Insurance - Which Company Is Best[/B]
I hope someone can provide some advise on which Mexican Auto Insurance is the best all around company. I have used Lewis and Lewis in the past years
for my short 6 week trips but now I'm planning on 6 months minimum and during that 6 months I will be looking for a place to retire in the La Paz
area.
I have been looking at the various companies and the more I read the worse it gets.
I will be pulling a 14 foot fishing boat behind my 2003 F-150 so I would like to get full coverage on both.
As far as the boat goes it looks like I need insurance for it while on land and also while I use on the water. Am I correct?
Is there any insurance that will cover my contents of the boat and truck? (I no longer have any home owners insurance in the USA)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lewis and Lewis can be very hard to get ahold of in the event of a problem.
I'd go with either BajaBound or Discover Baja Club; both answer their phones, return calls and try to provide good service.
Remember that with Discover you also need to pay $35? to join the club.

Ok, the only company that I know of that will cover a boat in Mexico is Progressive. But you still need to have a liability policy that covers you
for the boat while pulling it on the road as the US policy does not cover that, only theft and collision if something happens to the boat.
This idea has been tossed around for years on this forum so the only thing that you can do is to compare coverages of all the major companies. Look
to see what your upper liability limits are, legal coverage which is very important, and deductible. Remember cheapest is not necessarily best.
When you make the move to Mexico, then you probably want to look into getting mexican insurance from a Mexican agent and not tourist coverage.

If you're busy like me, Discover Baja offers excellent service. One call does it all and documents show up in the mail. Costs a little more but always
taken great care of me.

Hola, i know i asked this question in the past but has anyone had the unfortunate need for any companies services and what feedback can be given for
minor or major accidents and either being at fault or not.
i believe bajabound also offers medivac services ?

I've looked for an answer to this ? for 20 yrs., I
haven't come up with a 100% sure fire solution.
I have a Lewis & Lewis annual liability, their Mex Ins
Co is Qualitis, which I believe also is Costcos. L&L
has a high liability limit, $300.000 for the standard
policy, that is what sold me on them. A recent post or
10, make me take another look at them. Qualitis tried to worm
out of a claim recently for a what I see as a technicality.
There has never been a whole lot of feedback as to how
the different Mex Ins respond, L&L was reported to
take 10 months to pay a claim, no bueno. I tend to stay
away from the Clubs, and spend the $39 on the actual
insurance, mexpro is a site with some policies

I know nothing about the boat insurance part of the question but I have first hand experience filing a claim with Qualitas(Lewis and Lewis) and they
are liars and crooks, don't use them.

The problem as I see it is that foks posting on here for the most part are talikng about price and convenience for obtaining policies. For the good of
it, there are few Nomads who have actually had to utilize the claims services process, which is within the purview of the insurance carriers; not the
brokers with which we all do our business.
There was another thread on here recently that had some references to the AM Best ratings of the carriers. But, for so many shoppers, price remains
the most important element in their choice of coverage.
That said, I previously noted that the MexAdventure folks offered coverage through more insurance carriers than did the others. In fact, Lewis and
Lewis appeared to only write coverage with one company.
