Baja coast trip suggestions
OK all my wife and I have started thinking about our next Baja adventure and I thought where better to ask for information then Nomads.
We have been traveling around Baja for most of our lives and we are very comfortable doing so. Our kids now 11 and 13 made their first baja trips
when they were less then 3 months old.
We have camped all over the Sea of Cortez side and on the northern Pacific side and we now have a place in Punta Chivato so the last several years we
have mainly gone there. We have driven on dirt roads for hours, including a couple of Baja 500 races and we love to get lost although the Baja
almanac and GPS make that tougher and tougher. Here is what we are thinking. We would love suggestions from Nomads about places to stay and eat, and
things to see. We are planning on traveling in our Suburban with our 2 labs and 2 kids and we would like to stay somewhere everynight that has a bed
although we will bring a Tent and supplies just in case. Also we will probably have my parents along in their Suburban and they are equally
comfortable if not more so then we are in Baja.
Dates August 8th-18th, pretty much the only streach of time this summer that does not conflict with travel baseball or soccer.
We plan on leaving Encinitas early on the 8th driving to Punta Chivato for a couple of days and then start heading north via the pacific coast.
I am thinking from Punta Chivato down and over to Scorpion bay either going through Mulege or the road that cuts accross from just below Bahia
Concepcion, opinions here would be great.
Then head up on the dirt road through San Ignacio then back out to Abreojos. what is this section like is it worth it?
From Abreojos up the coast to Asuncion after staying there we would head up to Turtle bay and may or may not drive out to Punta Eugenia then back in
to Guerrero Negro with a stop at Malarrimo along the way.
we have also heard we can drive up the coast north of GN and come out at Catavina, not sure we will have time for that this trip but would love
opinions on this as well
We don't have a lot of time constraints other then we need to be back in the states by the 18th. I will also search for old trip posts to gather
information.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds wonderful... You know that August is the hottest month with most humidity and it is also hurricane season...
So, Bahia Asuncion will be awesome to escape the Cortez side.

go into juanico from the south. for real adventure and denture rattling take the north road out to ignacio, but stay on the right road or lose some
fillings. or just try the east road out. at least you'll be traveling downhill when you get to the sketchy areas where the road has washed away to
bedrock/basketball sized boulders. then again, the road to Mulege sounds fun!

Make sure you do a night or more IN La Bocana, something very magical about the place.

You can't go all that way and NOT check out Punta Eugenia, at least for the fabulous view and photo ops. IMHO.

We figured with the heat on the Cortez side the Pacific Would be a nice change for us. I have fished offshore from many of the spots on the pacific
side from the San Diego long range boats and I always catch myself staring at the coast wondering what lies around the next bay. We are excited to
find out. Thanks for the input so far. Keep it coming.

You will find the pacific coast refreshing after the heat on the Cortez side. Very difficult to camp in that kind of heat. Was 105º at 10:30 PM in
Bola one recent August, and about the same in Mulege and Loreto. Last September we just gave up on camping and hoteled it.
A great restaurant in Loreto is La Plapa. Also in Loreto Mita Gourmet is a sure bet. Both were open during summer.

Re your parents: consider their age, their health, any meds, restrictions - it will be very hot in August, and on the routes you suggest or seek,
there might be some "road building" -- very taxing in the heat.
