Shoreline fishing on the sea of cortex
I am debating on whether to take the fishing gear with me in May. Is anything caught by fishing the shoreline?

Umm... you are talking about a thousand miles of coastline on that side of Baja (Sea of Cortez/ Gulf of California)... WHERE are you going?
It certainly might be fun if you brought your pole and tackle box!

And no license required when fishing from shore. But even fishing from a kayak requires one.

If your coming to Loreto, don't bother. Shore fishing is not worth the effort of bring gear down.

Right now I have been catching small roosters, jacks, and cabrilla casting Krocs and Kastmasters from shore a few clicks north of La Paz.
I would say bring a good long distance casting setup, some spoons, and some small hooks for throwing bait. Just look for bait and birds working the
shallows.
By May the further south you are going, the better the shore fishing will be as the water warms in close. Use some good polarized sunglasses and
study the water.
I love sitting under a palapa and just waiting to see bait getting chased, then get on it!

Shoreline fishing on the sea of cortex
Thanks for the replies.
We will being traveling all the way down stopping along the way, eventually to visit friends in Pescadero. I'm not looking for the trophies etc. to
take photos of - might be nice to catch a few fish for dinner when camping. No great expectations.

Bring your tackle with you. You have nothing to lose and much to gain. Walking the shoreline is rewarding in itself, and the fish are a bonus.

Skipjack is right...takes almost no extra space...a light castingt rig with 2-3 lures...it'll enhance your trip and give you lots of photo-ops.
The fish below were all caught within casting distance from shore....location was the outer peninsula shorelines of Conception Bay. Smallish, but
delicious for dinners.
Fish whatevery looks good to you...but especially water with rocky points and dropoffs along your route. Good luck..Tight lines.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

My son and I always had lots of fun fishing from the beach! 
We would wear swim trunks and beach shoes and wade into the water to waist or lower chest level.
We used medium/light spinning outfits and smaller lures like chrome/blue
Krocodiles, fish replica lures and small feather type jigs.
With the water being so warm, it's a very fun and relaxing way to fish. With the right accessories (something to hold a cold one) you're ALL set.

I use both a flyrod and a spinning rod to cast from shore in the area of Santa Rosalia and depending on the time of the year, there are a lot of fish
available. My favorites are Sierra, Corvina, Pargo, basses of various kinds, and even an occasional Cabrilla. I took a little boy out from our
village yesterday since we could not take the boat out in the wind and we caught and released 25 or more Barracuda from shore. I used the flyrod and
they were easy to catch even in the wind.

I would recommend LSD or Mescaline for fishing in the Sea of Cortex.
I forgot to mention Peyote.

sure. doesn't take up much space.
if you bring SUP or kayak you will need fishing license
