mulege to san juanico
We are taking a three day trip in Mid May from the Mulege area to San Juanico. Is the road west off Mex 1 (just a little south of Rosarito) paved or
at least in a condition to be traveled in a motorhome? It looks like there are plenty of areas to dry camp on the beach around San Juanico?? Thanks

That road between Hwy 1 and San Isidro/La Purisima is dirt with some rough, rocky, steep sections.

that road is not the best. 4x4 should get you thru. definately leave the moho.

we scratched from mulege to san juanico BEFORE jimena...it's a great trip tho..one you'll not soon forget.

Thanks to both who responded. Looks like we'll take the 4wheel drive and stay at the Scorpion Bay Hotel. We're a little more casual than the Scorpion
Bay Hotel but I'm not seeing any casual type rentals. (We got rid of the tents a few years ago.) Thanks again. Ron

It is a beautiful drive to San Isidro. If you are returning east late in the day with the sun low at your back the Cardon and the red volcanic rock
take on brilliant colors. Quite spectacular. Last month it took a little more than an hour to do the roughly 30 miles from Hwy 1 to San Isidro in a
Bronco.

updated info on Scorpion Bay Hotel/Las Barrancas
Prior to the responses I received from MulegeMichael and Kurt I had emailed the hotel to see if they were open and I asked them about the road. I just
received an email from the club manager confirming that Scorpion Bay Hotel is open. He said the road is now paved from Las Barrancas. Unfortunately I
can't locate Las Barrancas on my Guia Roji map. Where is Las Barrancas? Thanks Ron

Here is the new road south from San Juanico... I drew onto the AAA map from what I could see on Google Earth satellite photos of the new highway. Just
extend the pavement on to Las Barrancas from where Google showed it ending...
This was one of the maps I made to show Mike's trek.

Thanks Woody with a View and David K. The hotel said I could bring a motorhome but judging from what others have said and looking at the map it would
seem that unless I really want to go far out of my way the only real choice from Mulege (Santispac) is in our 4 wheel drive. Thanks again. Ron

I would say that a motorhome on a Baja washboard road, is like eating popcorn on a roller coaster... it can be done, but it will be messy... and you
will lose a lot along the way!
Take the 4WD... unless you stay on Hwy. 1 to Loreto to Insurgetes then come north to San Juanico all on pavement.
There is also the 4WD road over the mountain from Mulege via San Miguel and Arroyo San Raymundo?

Great info and thanks to all. Looks like 3 trips for us. One that's planned in the 4 wheel drive, one extended trip later via Loreto (in the
motorhome) and one (just to add a little spice) over the mountain. The vision of eating popcorn on a roller coaster sealed our decision. Thanks again.

hey ron....last year we drove from san juanico to san gregorio totally on the beach...it is such a COOL trip!...not sure how many miles but probably
around 15 or so...wonderful country!
