Denaca:
I lived and fished the Sea of Cortez for 38 years and never heard anyone "Laugh at the Mar De Cortez".!!
It is the most wonderful Place in the World, The most abundant Fish Live in the World, Great Old time Fisherman and people.
The ones laughting may have been referring to that area called TJuana.
If you have never been you should go!! It is the Experience of a Life time!!

I think Denaca, up there in Berkely, is a little off track with Mente Principante as a "mood." I think Mente la nunca fits better.

Dolphin leading your Boat in the Water!
Lobster running under a Rock!
Yellowtail by the Thousands schooling on top of the Water!
Birds by the Milions diving on Schools of Bait!

Sea of Cortez is English for Mar de Cortes... That is a romantic name for the body of water that officially is the Gulf of California.

Maybe because Hernán Cortés tried and failed to establish a colony there - that is he really didn't have much to do with it's development from the
perspective of european folk - but that's pretty esoteric.
(The Cortés in Mar de Cortés comes from Hernán Cortés - it's not that the sea is polite or courteous or anything. El Golfo or Golfo de California is
more common - but yeah - Mar de Cortés exists too.)
Man it sure does't take much to set off some folk here.

The Sea of Cortes is the most beautiful and plentiful body of water I have ever had the pleasure of boating on, fishing, swimming in and just plain
living on in my life so far. So why do people laugh at the Sea of Cortes? In my opinion, though it may not matter to the laughers, they have never
experienced the beauty, love and essence of the Sea of Cortes.

Denaca-
I don't think anyone is laughing at "Sea Cortes". They/we/I were having fun with your typo within the title of your other string; "Sea of Cortex".
Furthermore, I would say most are not laughing at you personally, either. It was merely the typo. It was funny, given most of the replies, don't you
think?

What The S ?
Since Hernan was a Spaniard, perhaps it SHOULD be referred to as Mar de Cortes since the Zs and Xs came from those Mexican Injuns. Seems a bit rude
to change the name.
Let's start a Campaign.
Or, say F-it and have a Heineken.

X the Unknown
Good Catch, Lera.
IF I'd been a member (or follower) of the Papist Idolater Cult, I would have thought of Xavier, but Saintly nonsense is something I don't pay a lot
of attention to.
I made the mistake of including X based upon an obviously misleading notation in one College Spanish text from years ago wherein the
X was so attributed noting that, in Spain, "J" was the rule instead i.e. "Mejico" as shown in that text.
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa.
I will go do 500 "Hail Mary, Maria, Maryanne or Mollies" as penance and foreswear Heineken for a week.
A friend found me two cases of Steinlager which I have to go to Hemet to pickup.
However, I believe that the "Z", which was the subject in this case, still holds.
Let me know otherwise.

At Sea over Zs
Doesn't it seem a suspicious "coincidence" that there is BOTH a difference between the (Old World) Spanish versus the (New World) Mexicans over
S and Z at the SAME time there is a like difference between the British and Americans in the English Language ?
IS it coincidence ? Or ANOTHER of many conspiracies ?
A conflict between the Old and THE NEW WORLD Order ?
GNU ?
