Solar Power
I have a house in Cabo and looking at solar. Does anyone have experence with solar for pool pump ?
Also thinking of going solar for the house but have never spoken to nayone who has it. Any information would help...Thanks

According to friends of mine you can run a DC pool pump directly from solar panels. Works great. When the sun is up your pool is being filtered. A
good way to go.
We have been living off the grid in a solar home on the East Cape for over five years. The total cost of the solar system including batteries was
almost $40K. There are all kinds of options and many levels of systems you can buy. Is your house currently connected to the grid? Do you only want to
augment to lower your electric bill? That would change things. W/O batteries you would save 30% of your costs for a new system. I don't think you can
"sell back" power to the Mexican utility.
In our case we wanted to have a "normal" house with all the regular appliances. We contacted our solar dealer Arizona Wind and Sun and told them what
we wanted to do and they gave us a proposal. We went with their recommendation and have not been sorry. We have a backup generator and only have to
use it once in a while during short winter days or during the summer when we want to run AC.
If you take a ride out the dirt east cape road just past San Jose and the new marina, every house you see is a solar home. You can get as many
opinions as you want.

thanks so much for the info. We will be down this Monday for two months and will check it out. I'm not worried about the grid issue but as long as i
can switch to city power at times that would be great, just for AC.
If you don't mind can you tell me how big is your house? we are 4000 sf with two refrig units in it. Also a casita two bedrooms. There is one fridge
out there. My wife is concerned about hair dryers..Gezz, but thought i would ask. Not sure what the hell is gonna happen these days in America. It
just gets worst. While i can , if i go solar and stay down there if money becomes worthless at least I will have power and a place to go. Thanks

We are all solar for our house in Punta Chivato and it is great we can run the fans all night, tv, lights, pumps for the water, our small freezer,
refrigerator in the kitchen, etc... and during the day when the sun is out we do laundry and run dish washer, etc... we also have a propane generator
for back up that we rarely use. Hair driers are a big no no in our house as they just suck the juice from the system, you learn very quickly what
works well with the system and what doesn't

do NOT use a dc pump for your pool...
stick with correct equipment
the variable rate 115v pumps they sell today are purrfect
they do cost a little more ~$1500usa
you can run them 1/2 hour at 8amps for the pool vac
and then several hours at 2amps for the filter
they have their own timer
if your system isn't big enough then you NEED to build it up
"you play you pay"
ps...hair dryers work fine if the inverter can handle the wattage...they dont run that long
actually a toaster uses more electricty

go with the new 24v and 48v AC designed and built in Israel.
do you have plenty of water? if so do a low volt 2 stage D/I cooler with heat exchanger.
these products are avail now and are in my home design for mexico some day.
i long to be the Chief's neighbor east cape way some day.... and i will be off grid likely

Bob - i was talkin about HVAC sys compressors that run 24 and 48 V off solar.
the coils have to be cleaned just like the big boys.
for pool the vari pumps are great.

i wouldn't trust that webpage
who has a 115v 19amp pool pump? no way
that would never pass code in the usa
you COULD use that solar pump as a secondary pump to move water for a negative edge pool but for filtering... no way
it's like the solar air conditioner...its doesnt work

Not sure where you get that idea. I just went out an looked at the filter motor on my pool here in CA. It's 1.5 hp rated at 18.5 amps at 115 VAC. I
know it's to code, I was here when it was inspected.
No reason why a DV motor that pumps 3,900 GPH wouldn't make a good pool filter.

it's not to code today...maybe in 1970
all new pools require the variable rate pump
my new pump is 1 3/4 hp and uses 9 amps
time to replace your pump and save mucho $$$ in just a few months
a house wired in 1960 would NEVER pass code today
