Truck breakdown - any inexpensive hotels in Los Barriles?

We're vehicleless after discovering yesterday that the right rear axle, bearing and seal need to be replaced (& the oil contaminated brake shoes...). :(
At the moment we're staying at the Hotel Los Barriles, at 1200 pesos a night it has me looking around for an alternative...we may be here for awhile.

Hotel Calafia in Buena Vista (adjacent to Los Barriles to the south) might be a shot if you can call them or get a ride over there. They have a nice restaurant as well.

find out why it failed. on my truck the rear diff breather gets plugged and blows a seal and ruins brake pads.

good luck!

good luck ...what a huge bummer. I would ask the workers at your hotel and also, believe it ornot, the MOTELS or AUTO HOTELS right outside of town are usually much more inexpensive - to the tune of 300 pesos a night. spotlessly clean. safe. and usually very quiet. again - we wish you the best of luck in getting your wheels back real fast.

I've stayed at the L.B. Hotel a few times and never paid that much ??? There are some little "yurt" type rooms near spa buena vista that are very reasonable. Good luck... you could be stranded in alot worse places.

S-wave, isn't it a giant pain in the a$$ to be vehicle-deprived? I hope you're closer to civilization than we are!

Also, Lil 'Chico' Martine who lives on the entrance road just up from Chapitos on the same side, he has rooms and they are inexpensive and rustic. It has a little palapa out front and a driveway that goes down into a dirt yard. lil Martine is Martin Verdugo's old bartender.

I think Little Martin has rooms w/bathroom for around $350 pesos a night. I have never actually checked them out. It is tucked back a little on the main entry road into town, just down a little ways from Plaza de Pueblo on the same side of the road. Easy walking every where you have to go in town from there.

Woody, that's what I was trying to say on a previous post about how the forum can help. Where else would the guy seeking help get that kind of first hand info. Nowhere! Viva Nomads.

Maybe consider a home rental?

VRBO website has a few that offer per night rentals or maybe check the local rental property management offices.

If all else fails...you can construct a palapa or lean-to camp on the beach (near North Beach) for free!

Yup - you could head out to North Beach and maybe score a vacant Palapa or rent borrow or buy a tent from some of the folks free camping out there.

Hotel Pescadores 624-121-8786 a couple of miles from town but if the price is right ? they may come and get you ?

Your just paying twice the normal rate. (????) Sure that wasn't for two nights?
