Good G.P.S. for Baja Cali.
Hi y'all am new here, kind of reluctant to ask a question because of all the sharks, but what the heck here it goes. Coming in from Louisville KY. on
company business and I need a dash mounted G.P.S. that shows detailed street by street directions of all of Baja California. I was handed an airline
ticket and a Garmin G.P.S. 60 csx that looks like it has 300k miles on it, but am not sure if it will give turn by turn directions. Can anybody sugest
something, oh and should I up my life insurance ? Am not going down there willingly, corp. says I gotta go so I gotta go.

Believe it or not Mexico is one of our largest trading partners, over $1.5 Billion in products exported to Mexico in 2010. They are only behind
France and Canada. So they say jump and I ask, on who ?
Thank you Dennis and woody

Does Skeet know you will be using a GPS instead of maps?

The TomTom USA/Mexico map is surprisingly good. And you can hack the TomToms and upload scans of the almanac which is awesome.

I've been reading his posts and at the risk of sounding STUPID is he serious about transplanting non native creatures to protected areas?? Because I
don't think there are people that ignorant in the world. Now I'm being a shark... No bueno..

I used Garmin's North America update + paper maps (Baja Almanac, CAA). My advice is to get very comfortable with using your GPS if you are not
already.
Plotting your coordinates and cross checking a complicated route with Google or Bing maps can save some headaches.
Listen to your gut or get some directions (e.g. here) if maps and GPS else fail!
When the way comes to an end, then change. Having changed, you pass through.

Your 60 csx can do turn by turn directions (no speech) if you have the proper micro SD card in it, like this one on
ebay:http://cgi.ebay.com/GARMIN-CITY-NAVIGATOR-MEXICO-NT-GPS-MAPS-010-10755-00-/330561149203?pt=GPS_Maps_Software&hash=item4cf6fad913
However, if you expect to just turn it on and have it take you where you want in Mexico, you may be in for a rude awakening. Most places don't even
have numbers and many streets don't have signs. Getting around in Mexico is difficult at best. Better to leave the driving to the cab drivers.

| Ok I'm picking up a rental because I'm going to visit a few cities down the peninsula and talking to some
potential customers. I've been reading (with google translate ) Mexican Newspapers and it does not sound very pleasant i.e. bodies hanging from
bridges, shootouts in broad day light. Is all this really happening ?? or is somebody trying to keep tourists out ?? Now my wife is really peeed.....
And thank you for taking time to help a reluctant gringo..

First of all. "Cali"??? WTF. Yer not from around here, are ya?
Second, unless yer offroad, in Baja I'm hard pressed to imagine what y' need with a f*ckin GPS. (Mostly they're mostly for the folks devoid of common
sense, so they can be blindly led off into pastures and brick walls.
Honestly, you don't need no steenkin GPS.

Happening? You betcha. Especially if yer GPS were to happen to lead you to Cuidad Juarez. (Hey, stranger things have happened.) But get out a map
and see just exactly how unlikely that would be with*OUT* a GPS.

for this type travel you don't need a gps. just get a couple road maps. the gps map sets in baja are pretty crappy for street navigation.
yes, bodies or body parts in the street every week. mostly drug trafficers (and occasional crooked cops) killing each other.
