Jenny!!!
You cannot even compare the Surroundings of the Nutree to Mulege!
Just look at all the Cars driving by, all the Ugly looking Kids with their Britches hanging to their Butts, and all of Those Crazy College Students
from Davis nearby, and the the Toxicity of the Central Valley is the Worst Spot in the Nation. You can't even breathe.
No The Serinidad has them beat by yards and Miles.

Jenny" You must really have "Sweet Meat"".
All of the many years that Virginia and I lived in our place in Loreto-Rancho Sonrisa we never ever had any problems with No Seeum's/
One of the reasons I did not choose Mulege was because of them. You are 100% right when it comes to Bugs, but when I went fishing there I would go
into the little Strip at the Hotel Mulege up on the Hill.
There was a Great big Balckman/Mexican Combination who would stir up the Best Carnitas in Baja. Turns out he was the brother to another Big
Blackman/Mexican combination Man. We became friends and I learned that his Grand Father was one of the Army Troopers that were station in La Paz
many, many years ago.
The Serinidad may not be the very Top line place but it has been the Top LIne place for Pilots for many years.
It brings back the Ghost of "Baja Patty" A Tall Good Looking, two-fisted Drinking Lady thaat had a Ranch out on Conception.
If I remember correctly she had retired or quit working at Convair in the States and moved to Baja to get away from the "idiots"
She could Drink most all of those Hotshot Pilots under the Table in Short order.

Given all the water in the Mulege area, there's simply no way to eradicate the bugs. Will say that the Serenidad has several fans in the outdoor
dining area by the pool that do a fairly good job of keeping the critters at bay.
At the end of the day, I have to wonder if, given the absolutley prime location of Serenidad, that a more upscale place could not be built there.
Obviously, Mulege is not a destination resort town. In many cases, that is exactly the reason why gringos locate there.
Just noting that not too far from Serenidad and Mulege, one can find an amazing small hotel at Punta Chivato. Not like Punta Chivato is a resort
destination, either.
Don and family have spent decades deveoping and running this place. But, it is not 1980.

"Serenidad is no bargain. Did you ever see any Mexican families staying there? Serenidad is just skimming the market for the few gringos who have
planes and money to burn and who have convinced themselves it is a deal and the bugs are just "atmosphere". But that market segment is shrinking
rapidly. Serenidad is not even close in quality, price and amenities when compared to what you can get for a lot less in the USA.
I can understand somebody going there once -- just for bragging rights to say they did it. But anybody making a cool, calm and disinterested
evaluation of the facts would not consider Serenidad a "friggin bargain." You are just caught up in the emotions, not the reality. "
Jenny - are you nutz?? it isn't supposed to compete with stateside places.
It's mexico ferkrissakes...Serenidad is a total gas with REAL atmosphere - maybe for pilots more but who cares? it is a tourist place and i have seen
plenty of mexican families paying full rack to stay there and loving it!
why over Easter and that week long deal it was sold out with mexicans and no gringo planes were there!!
Malls? motels? fast food? chain sit down places? haha Yes when i want that boring stuff i can go to Nut Tree. did you know the Nut Tree used to run a
full back page ad on earlier versions of Senterfitt's guides to baja?

Gawd. Reminds me. As someone left to the hospitality of commercial aviation, I have fond memories of when I could jump a PSA flight out of Burbank,
and land at the Tahoe airport, instead of all that driving from Reno!

Just have to wonder, given Don's age, whether the family is really committed to keping this place going.

i hold no hope for the place's continuity after the Don passes.....very sad.
they had to replace all the beds after the last big flood.
biz is slow, you can't do capital improvements without retained earnings.
and there was the kitchen fire.
tough biz to be in..and all the legal fees to save your title???
