Any artist canvas painters who teach others to paint?

We will be back at Las Gaviotas for four months starting June 1st and are looking for someone that is an art canvas painter to give pointers to someone else wanting to learn.

My wife had been taking painting lessons in the past but with work, re-entering college to finish up degree--- well time slipped away. Now she wishes to take it up again and I know her skills will come back quickly with training. So, any painters wanting to give painting lessons around Rosarito or better yet close to Las Gaviotas? Maybe someone knows an art school near by or someone that actually teaches on the side. Take Care & Travel Safe----- "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

Note, we would like to have her get lessons starting out at least twice a week and willing to discuss the lessons costs when we get down there and meet whoever has ability to do teaching. Take Care & Travel Safe---"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

Ensenada might be a stretch, but the culture center often gives art classes. Don't have particulars, but it may be a start.

You are talking Las Gaviotas up here, Sí ?

Dennis, not necessarily talking Las Gaviotas up but I enjoy it a lot. I mention it as I have stayed in a number of places in Baja and Mainland but have found Las Gaviotas to our liking. Since I am on my way back there, I do let others know it is safe due to them having proper security staffing that is always moving about the community. However, as with anything those with evil and weapons can even make a church dangerous, correct?

Have met some really nice people and picked up a lot of interesting information tips while down in Las Gaviotas. There are people from all over the States, Mexico, Europe, Central America and South America that have a lot of stories to share. We just have the time to enjoy what others have to share about their experiences now. Even Terry28 and his wife has shared a few cold ones with my wife and me really nice people, Nomads are everywhere,LOL!
As with all things you never know where the next interest or liking may take over one's current liking,LOL. Retired now, so we have more time to look around at our leasure and really enjoy meeting others from the communities we stay or visit. My wife and I worked hard, put a lot of time along with long hours into our jobs before retiring so now it is our time. We have been coming to Baja together for over 35 years and I have been traveling down for over 44 years.
Ensenada would be too far to go for classes, so that is why we are hopeful maybe someone on this site knows someone. Maybe even someone here that actually does painting themselves who would teach someone else.

Hi Bajafun - I sat next to you at the slide show!
Oils? Acrylics? Having done some painting and taken art lessons in the past, I have found that instruction books help a lot (Walter Foster is popular). These books can be very specific (how to paint water, how to paint landscapes, how to paint birds, etc.). For lack of an art teacher, should could definitely use books and give herself smaller projects (like practicing shadow techniques or using a knife). Instead of using canvas, use particle board painted first with Gesso so as not to waste a canvas for instructional use. Then, of course, once you start a painting it just evolves from your intellect and soul. Going to art shows for inspiration can help, as well as just finding something that works for you (plein air, painting a photograph).
If you're still in San Diego, I would be happy to give your wife 3-4 of my painting books that I don't use anymore. I have books about "snow scenes, oil paints, how to mix colors, streets, still life, seascapes, and some with just scenes around the world to copy.

I know a good artist, Francisco Mariono, from La Paz who spends the summer in the Ensenada area. He teaches some classes in LP, I enjoyed the ones I attended, and I know he has taken a private student or two when up north. I'm a BCS Nomad and have no idea where Las Gaviotes is, but if the distance is workable, u2u me and I'll send you his contact info.

Thanks Wilderone will check out the paint book you suggested and back in El Centro area until first when we return to Las Gaviotas for 4 months it is about 8 miles south of Rosarito. Rhintransit, as I am not wanting her to drive to Ensenada twice a week maybe I will have to if nothing found around Rosarito, Baja Malibu,Cantamar or even Playas T.J. Hoping someone knows someone but just hasn't read this thread yet. Rhintransit will U2U on the specifics of how to find Francisco Mariono.
