From what I gather, no part of The Baja is safe. This innocent angel was walking home while talking to her mother on her cell phone, she told her
mother that a van was following her. She never made it home, unfortunately none of the media has published this intil 7 months after the incident. God
help this angel.

As an old Timer{Since 1967} when I made my first trip in my Airpplane to Baja Sur, I have Never, Never, been in Fear.
I flew in and out of Baja Sur over the years aquiring approx. 2,000 Hours of Flying time,
I set up a Mexican Corp. and bought and Sold Proerty.
I built and lived at Rancho Sonrisa in Loreto full time for 16 years.
I put 167,000 miles on a 93 Cherokee Grand the last ten years before I left .
I and my Wife got excellent medical Care from the Doctors and Hospitals.
The only FEAR {or should I say awarness} that I had those many years and trips was on the LOS ANGELES FREEWAY when the Freeway shooters were active.
As a precaution I started going through Pasadena then through Tecate.
If you have FEAR then stay at Home and keep your Mouth shout about something you know nothing about!!
Comprende??

I laugh when I see posts like the one above as it's proof Baja isn't safe for anybody.
From what I gather Southern California isn't safe either when white guy John Gardner was on the loose looking for young white teen girls he could
savagely rape and then kill. And although Gardner is behind bars probably for good now. There are many out there just like him. Just take a look on
the "Megan's Law," or the "Registered Offenders list." You'll probably have somebody from that list not to far away from you. Does that mean people
shouldn't visit you if somebody from that "Megan's" list lives close to you?
I know I would never move to Poway, CA. It's probably too dangerous and that's where Chelsea King was from. I hear lots of sick insane people live in
Poway too:
________________________________
John Albert Gardner III (born April 9, 1979) is an American convicted double murderer and sex offender.[1] He confessed to the rape and murder of
14-year-old Amber Dubois from Escondido, California,[2][3][4] the February 2010 rape and murder of 17-year-old Chelsea King from Poway, CA.
Additionally, he attempted to rape Candice Moncayo of San Diego County, and had been previously incarcerated for the molestation of a 13-year-old
girl.[5]
____________________________________________
Poor Amber Dubois the innocent angel. I wonder what went through Amber's head before she was killed by an American sick child molester killer the US
authorities knew about but yet allowed to walk the streets in search of their next victim.
Do you think Mexico should put out a warning in Mexico warning about the dangers of visiting the US espeically if you have young daughters? Should we
all move out of California and the US because of these serious incidents?
________________________________
THE DETAILS
On February 13, 2009, Amber Dubois (age 14) disappeared while walking from her home in Escondido, California, to her nearby high school. At
approximately 7:10 a.m., someone saw Amber walking hurriedly toward her school in the direction of the school's athletic practice field. Shortly
thereafter, Amber was seen walking about a block further at a normal pace. She was in the company of an unknown male. It is possible that this male
may have been the last person to see Amber before her disappearance.
Additionally, there was a red pickup truck that pulled into a parking lot on the school grounds near where Amber was last seen. This truck was parked
only for several minutes before leaving the area. Law enforcement is interested in interviewing the driver of the truck.
The truck is described as a newer model, possibly a Ford, GMC, or Toyota, with chrome both above and below the grill. The vehicle is a full size,
four-door crew cab pickup truck, red or maroon in color. The truck has chrome wheels and running boards and may be equipped with chrome rails or
capsalong top of the bed sides. The truck may also have a fifth-wheel trailer hitch.

Ok Skeeter, just keep going down there and cross breeding creatures that I'm sure YOU know nothing about. I don't care who says what, we don't have
kidnappings (except for Phoenix AZ.)and beheadings, massive prison breaks, corrupt police and authorities unwilling to solve murders nob. Mexico is a
failed state, unfortunately the government has done a very good job at keeping the poor people poor and unable to aquire arms to defend themselves.
Now as for your hostility toward me, I simply comented about an article that was brought to my attention by a co-worker, hopefully this article can
raise awareness of this child's dissapearance and maybe she can be reunited with her parents, whom I can't begin to imagine their pain.

I can remember coming home from work, flipping on the tube and seeing our ex-mayor who had an afternoon show asking the chief of police here in San
Diego, "what should a citizen do when driving in the city"? The police chief responded, "they should keep their doors locked, leave space between them
and the car in front for escape room and if someone approaches their car they should leave immediately". This addressing the carjacking situation.
We were in San Felipe 2 days ago and it was terrible...fearful...all of these little kids screaming through the streets on Quads with big smiles on
their faces!!! All of the motorists, walkers and cops just gave way and went on their way. Funny, we don't even let our kids walk to school anymore.
Traveled Baja, Mex and Central America since the 70's. Put about 250,000 miles on the roads between Panama and my front door in that time ('71 vw
bus). In Nicaragua and El Salvador during the Reagon wars, surfing. Got back 48 hours ago from Baja. yep, shakin in my boots.

What Woody said.
I can force them to go, but I will prove them wrong when I get back all happy and stress free from Baja.
New plans for trip, since only 2 cars are going we will leave friday morning with Lunch and refuel in SF,a short visit to BajaWarrior's house. Then on
to Gonzaga Bay (campo Beluga),stay Friday Saturday and leave Sunday by noon to spend Sunday night in SF so I can have Dinner at El Nido for my B-day
May 28th,a walk in the malecon afterwards,Monday morning hit the road to cross at TECATE.. pretty basic.
I will make a sidetrip to Coco's Corner on Saturday and maybe la Turquesa if I can find it, I think is close to Coco's place...
|
First mistake
Why do you tell everyone where you are going?
You may get some nut case on here that will hunt you down just to mess with you? I'm not paranoid, but I never tell anyone on here where and when I
am going.
For example this weekend we are leaving Phx and crossing the border at about 5pm. Going to our casa for a bit and then spending some time at Shell
Beach, but I would never let anyone know that! |

I bet you are refering to Shell Island... ? No confusing where that is...
(actually, I know a lot of local gringos who have come to the region in recent years have called it Shell Beach, as well...
It is Shell Beach, it is near San Felipe and I will be there. Keep an eye open. |

My point is, equating this crime in San Diego as making it Unsafe to travel to SoCal/SD is the same as saying a Cartel hit in Nogales makes it unsafe
to travel to La Paz. |
You're absolutely correct, doc. It makes much more sense to compare apples-to-apples. So, then, if you wanted to point out the crime in San Diego as
compared to where you are, you would then make your point by comparing the two places. I can do that.
Let's see, the current homicide rate in the city of San Diego is 2.0 per 100,000 people. There's no reports on that sand spit you are hanging out at,
but the entire state of Baja California Sur, where La Paz is, has a homicide rate of 10.4 per 100,000 people this year.
I don't know about you, doc, but that looks like where you are has 5 times the murder rate as San Diego. By the way, BCS has only one-half the
population of the city of San Diego. What do you think? Is that a fair apples-to-apples comparison?
While you are contemplating all that, and being that you are an expert on all things Mexican, why don't you read this and learn about what is
happening right under your nose down there.

while baja sure aint what it used to be...it is still a relatively safe paradise. Many good points have been made here on both sides of the issue. Due
diligence is necessary anywhere you travel but thinking about safety and reflecting on the village life here, I wouldnt trade baja for anywhere else.
As mentioned our children walk to school unaccompanied and nobody worries, no metal detectors in the school...you even see teachers walking hand in
hand with students which I find lovely...people dont lock their doors or cars and leave stuff outside all the time. Kids run around the streets after
dark...I wouldnt think twice about walking home at midnight alone... I dont think anyone has a security system here.
but I do agree with the point about not telling the world your travel plans in detail on a public forum...trip reports after the fact are great but to
be safer...dont give the bad guys a chance to screw with you...there are alot of crazies out there....watch your back.

I personally love all of the "fear-mongers" that won't go to Baja! It makes it a lot less crowded for the people that do go down. I do however feel
bad for the Mexican people that need the tourism dollars.
I constantly have people telling me how dangerous Mexico is and that I am crazy for going down there. Of course, it is always from people that have
never stepped a foot in Mexico and beleive all of the media BS. It's funny to me how these people believe that they are totally safe here in the
states and think that nothing can happen to them north of the border! I've heard more gunshots in the city where I work than I have ever heard
anywhere in Mexico. Bad things can happen anywhere....
