Driving from Cabo to Todos Santos?
I'm thinking of renting a vehicle and driving from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos to surf. Is it safe? Is it worth the drive to surf? And any advise
on rental vehicles in Cabo? Donny

Donny, don't be crazy, you'd have to be 4x4 off road winner of the Baja 2000 to make that run, unless you got a trophy truck with nitro burners I
wouldn't set foot near the BIG highway. You blow a tire and your rig will shoot right off the highway into a ravine and you'll never be found, or you
could get bad gas and have the engine permanently destroyed in seconds. Or Worse.
Best you rent a tour bus or use senor frogs weekend getaway extravaganza tour service which is highly reliable by the way, Good luck to you on your
trip and have a great time.

Interestingly, I found that highway to be pretty much the worst of all of Highway 1. Even worse than up around Catavina.
There's a fair amount of construction but even worse is the roadway they haven't started on yet. Badly beaten up.
But, not to worry. Rough ride but really NBFD. Just so y' know. It's not all that far, of course.

Its not a very good time of year for surf up there. It was alot more fun when that road was dirt.

First of all I am not a surfer so I can not answer that part of your question, however I live in CSL. At times there may be some road construction

We travel on that part of Hwy 1 at least three times a month to get propane and go to different secluded beaches. Yes the road can be curvy and two

have the engine permanently destroyed in seconds. Or Worse."...I would not agee. I have several friends that drive from CSL to TS monthly just for
lunch and shopping and they are "60 year ladies"!
Just last week we stopped at one of the new Pemex to get gas and it was "good". Besides as you leave CSL the "new road" is smooth and wide.
As far as renting a vehicle, the fine print in the contract reads "do not take it off road".
I do know you can surf at Cerritos Beach. Go, have fun but like the rest of Baja...do not drive after dark.

First of all, welcome to the Baja Nomad Forum.......
These posters are pulling your leg......the road from Cabo to Todos Santos is just fine, get your rental car and drive with your surfboard and have a
great time.
It will take you all of 45 minutes! Cerritos Beach is safe, accessable, and has plenty of surfers who will tell you where the good waves are.

A lot of people do a day trip to surf at Los Cerritos just south of TS. There's a great restaurant on the beach with good food, board rentals, and
the surf is right in front at the point. The road has been under construction so there are some slow parts, but nothing to worry about by Baja
standards. It's a fun and beautiful place, have a great time!

Gnu-- you are so bad-- the poor guy is probably cowering in his hotel room waiting for the taxi to his plane. We were there last week and the road is
under construction but it's short stretches of construction-- dirt-- and then paved. Don't know about the surf now but the last couple of days have
been real windy in the afternoon in La Paz

I wish I could hang a bucket beneath some of these replies and the richness of the B.S. would cause jack and the beanstock growth in my garden.
WANDERING CATTLE is absolutely by far the mot hazardous thing on this stretch of highway.

Well for people that live in this area, Donny's question comes over quite silly. Safe to drive? It is one of the pretiest roads in Southern Baja and
with the work going on, getting better all the time.
Regarding surfing, ask an expert; Mario at Los Cerritos http://www.mariosurfschool.com/
The grass is always greener....
and so, there is always a better spot in Baja

Yes Donny they're pulling your leg and it's a great drive.
Actually the surfing at Cerritos is NOT always safe!! (depending on conditions /swell size / your positioning. It's KNOWN for being potentially
hazardous if certain planets align (while neighbouring spots can be way more user-friendly))
Regardless of your experience ... please quiz locals re current conditions and they'll be happy to assist.

There is considerable construction going on, as they are expanding the road to four lanes all the way between Cabo and La Paz. But, it is a beautiful
drive, and it is a very popular day trip for Cabo vacationers to head to TS for lunch.
But, gawd! Safe? Completely!

The road is fine, but have you ever rented a car?
Do you REALLY need a car? There are busses and taxis.
Car rentals can have hidden costs!!!!!!!
The teaser rate of $26 per day became much more expenzive ( $90 per day with various fees (insurance)
I'm no expert and you need some expert advice or be ready to open up that wallet.

Check out the direction of the surf swell on the internet b4 you arrive. Beaches in the TS/Pescadero are best in a northerly swell. Which occurs
mostly in the winter months. South swells are best recieved on beaches east of CSL. Locals, like Tio, will not want you anywhere near they're
waves.Good luck.
