Sentri Pass requirements and cracked windshield?

I have been reading the vehicle inspection guidelines for obtaining a Sentri Pass. There is a line in there that says

-The windshield must be free of cracks

How stringent is this rule? I have a less than a dime size spider crack where a rock hit the windshield 3 years ago. Will they disapprove my application because of this or are they looking for major windshield cracks and breakage?

They are pretty stringent about it. You will still get your Sentri Pass but your car will not untill the windsheild is fixed. My suggestion is get fixed before your appointment.

No sticker for you. get it fixed. size does not matter with the CBP.

What do you mean fixed? I had it repaired with a windshield repair kit. Other than that are you suggesting that I have to replace the whole windshield? I will try to post an image when my wife gets home.

Mindreading is not a Nomad skill.

If you are going to argue with advice from people who know from experience, then go to the office and DEMAND your sticker. They are very open minded to people who assert their rights.

I'm not arguing at all. I'm sorry that you took it that way. I'm trying to understand if they will accept a small visible spider crack that has been repaired but still visible or they need a pristine windshield.

I'm sure there's a very good reason, but why does homeland security care if my windshield is chipped? Anyone see the logic?

I had a spider crack the size of a quarter that I had repaired. You can still see it but not that much. I recieved my SENTRI sticker no questions asked.

Here is the picture of the crack. I will try to get the Sentri Pass as is without replacing the windshield. I'll report back if I was successful or not.

Dang, that is small! I would stick a dead fly on it and call it a day. No way anyone notices that!

There are plenty of glue removal solvents on the market ........... goof-off, goo-gone etc...

Then get a pro to fix that crack.

The windshield is cracked, but only on one side. Someone is heavily into glass investment.

There is no hard and fast rule on this. I have heard of some getting hassled over cracks as small as yours. I took a rock to the windshield on one of our vehicles thanks to a Granite Construction truck up on 101 awhile back and kept putting off getting it fixed. It grew into a large crack and several weeks went by before I found the time to get it replaced. Every time I went through Sentri I kept waiting for an agent to say something but they never did.

Feeling lucky???

Ok my two cents. By judging where the crack is and its location I think it will depend on the agent that puts your sticker on. The only possible problem that I see in your photo is the location. It is somewhat close to where they place your sticker. But with all that said here is some food for thought. If you choose not to fix the windshield and you have to replace it in the near future you will have to go through the god awful process of making an appointment to get a new sticker. I am speaking from experince. I swapped out vehicles and I made my appointment for my vehicle inspection and sticker ,this was on 28 April, I finally got my appointment on the 26th of May. So while I was waiting that was four weeks of using the regular lanes, and that is very frustrating when you are in the sentri program.

Update.

I just received my vehicle Sentri sticker. No problems. The inspector made no mention of the crack. The interviewing agent beforehand did mention that there could not be any cracks larger than a quarter.

Sentri lane here I come. :)
