Looking for a way to internet access while on the road in my RV - in Baja California Sur - specifically Conception Bay. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated

Thanks Bajablanca, thats some good info.We were thinking something like here in the states, they have internet cards that hook up to cell sites. I've
heard that maybe Tel Cell,or Mex Cell had something like that. Anyone heard of such a thing.

I think cell service is very limited in Conception. MoviStar has the cards/modems. Not sure about TelCel
Bahia Concepcion where life starts...given a chance!

Telcel does have 3G internet access, in certain areas. It may not yet exist in the more rural places.
I've written various articles about Telcel Amigo 3G at:
http://www.sanfelipelife.com/category/Phone-Internet
In short, it works out about $40 a month prepaid, only for the months you need it, plus about $100 for hardware ("free" hardware offers involve long
contracts, not recommended).
You likely won't get reception at Conception Bay, unless anybody can confirm that Telcel 3G (not just Telcel voice) is available there now.
In other areas, you may be able to get the slower GSM internet speeds from either Telcel or Movistar. These are both really slow, barely worth
bothering with.
Satellite internet is another option, but you'll need to carefully realign each time you park, or pay a lot for a motorised antenna.
If you just need occasional internet to keep in touch, and don't have to be connected all the time, you're probably better off relying on free (or
paid) wi-fi from campsites, bars, cybercafes etc.

Our Moviestar phone did not work at Santispac. Or anytime we were driving between larger towns. Chino

I have the Telcel 3G and I have used it up and down the peninsula, it works wherever there is a Telcel signal.

There is free wifi at the restaurant across from Coyote Bay and many free spots in Mulege, a 15 minute drive.

Thanks Again Willy. I think your down river from our old place at Leon's. We lost it twice to the floods. First to John. Figured the odds were with
us,since the last big one was in 1959. The next year got us again. Too costly for us. We'll go down in the motorhome, leave if bad weather comes.

Yes, I hear you. Lots of great deals to be had around here, but, for now, I'm staying mobile. I can be up the hill in minutes LOL. Maybe, you should
stay here and do day trips to the beaches. high speed connections thru out the park, pool etc
on edit - yes, I'm down river/ up river from Leon's place, depending on the tide

Are you using the 3G through your phone or a dongle on your computer?

Isn't 3g satellite?
Why wouldn't there be a signal everywhere?

Telcel 3G data comes from the Telcel mobile phone (cellphone) towers, so is limited to the areas within range of them (mostly towns and some
highways). It's nothing to do with satellite.
Also, some of the Telcel towers haven't yet been upgraded to 3G, they still have only the older GSM techology, so in those areas you'll be able to use
Telcel for phone calls but not for 3G data.

Is anyone getting 3G Telcel in the Punta Banda/La Bofadora area?

if you are a snow-bird like rogerb and stay on the bay all winter
you should just invest in a hughesnet sat system
most people here on the bay have given up the fight and pay the $60 a month for sat service
there are still a few holdouts that share or look for unsecured wirless but those people are very fustrated all winter
with hughes...you aim the dish
turn on the modem and surf
