Menaje de Casa
We just leased a property in La Mision and are moving down there full time. Someone told us of the "Menaje de Casa" that allows us to bring our
household goods down duty free. Can anyone give us the details of what we have to do to make this happen?

From what I remember reading, you need an FM2 or 3. A detailed list of used goods only. 1 load only. Try a search on this forum or Talk Baja.

Oh, we may be neighbors. I have had a place in the ejido for several years. Living in La Paz now, but we may end up in La Mision before all is said
and done. I think you will like La Mision. Great place, very nice locals. Definite small town atmosphere.

I did mine several years ago. I had my FM3, I went to the Mexican Cousl. Office in Phx. I was given a document that I had to fill out, in detail.
Any item with a serial number, has to have it stated on the document.
You have to sign a document that states if you fail to renew you FM3, then you have to pay taxes on the items on the list.
I think we had to pay a fee of about $100 or so.
I was told that we would have to use an "importer" to trailer the goods across the boarder. It would be $60 to do so. The day we arrived at the
importer in Calexico, the fee sudenly jumped to $600, you know, a "change" on the Mexico side.
NOTE: YOU DON'T NEED AN IMPORTER!

According to the Aduana Mexico (Mexican Customs) website, the menaje de casa is no longer available except for certain categories of
returning Mexican nationals, or for certain special categories of foreigners (like diplomats and clergy). Here is the link:
