Mulege book

I am trying to get a copy of a book about Mulege. I think it is out of print now, but I was wondering if anyone had a copy that they would part with.

It is called

Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico: The Complete Tourism, Souvenir, and Historical Guide of Mulege by Kerry G. Otterstrom

Any information would be welcome. Thanks

Thanks Dennis, but I already checked out Amazon and they want 20 bucks like you say, but they also want just about that much again to ship to Canada... Thought I could get something cheaper seeing as I am an old fa_t and on old age pension.

Do you know someone in the US? Have them order it and mail it to you. The shipping shouldn't be but a few dollars.

Yes, He was in Mulege for a number of years. Did some back country guiding and tended bar at the Candil and also at Ana's at Santispac. The book was printed in 1992 and my copy was autographed 5/29/93.

We met vikingo...

....years ago when he was living in a small casa, high on a hill above town...

We drove our VW bus up the hill for the view and he yelled over to us to come up to his place for an even better view - he was right, a great view of town from up there...we were running out of light, and told him we'd be back later...

The next day we made another trek up the hill for some pics with the light being better...

We liberated a bottle of Tequila from our stash and spent an hour or so as Vikingo entertained us with some of his 'observations' of the area...

When he mentioned that he'd penned a Mulege book, I asked where we could get one...he rummaged around in the back of the casa an found a cardboard box that still had a dozen or so copies, and promptly gave us one...the remaining Tequila being the 'trade'...

His remaining copies had been in 'storage' for some time, as the one we received was riddled with worm holes...

His inscription reads:

"Ray
You come, like, between the holes, just like how frequently you visit the view of Vikingo...
Welcome back to the hill. You are one of the few "twice now"...
You come on back up...
Well to hell with 2000 - we made it."
'signed' Vikingo
"11-26-99
Best my friend."

\"It doesn\'t use numbers or moving hands It always just says now...\"

That's a classic Vikingo story alright. I remember a funky hand painted sign at that casa up on the hill.."Only the world's most adventurous and creative people beyond this point"...or something to that effect.

Since it is out-of-print, I could provide scans... Is there a certain part you want to see... or do you just want a book for your collection?

Okay... it is a very interesting little book full of great stuff... I haven't looked at it very closely until now, thanks to this thread!

In the history section, there are chapters on the mission, on Ugarte's ship, on the Mexican War and how Mulege repelled the gringos, the Cochimi language, etc.

I think the Cochimi/ English 'dictionary' might be interesting to post...?

'Mulege' by Kerry Otterstrom 1992

Here are 4 pages (24-27) of interest... The Cochimi language dictionary and the first page on the mission...

Of interst, the book I have was an autographed copy to Choral Pepper, signed by Kerry on 3-16-93.
