SHORT TERM INSURANCE
hola, going to san quintin to fish for a week crossing on august 6. what is the best way to get auto insurance for such a short time frame ?
i usually buy annual insurance from vagabundos but won't be going this year.
i have been told to just buy insurance at the border. if so, are the insurance brokers open 24/7 ?
i'll also buy my tourist visa at the t.j. border crossing.
i thank you in advance,
BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

Fast. Cheap. Straight up business
http://www.vagabundos.com/
Get a membership here for 35 bucks (well worth the extras you get).....insurance is good priced. Remember....if you have anything ATTACHED to that
rear bumper....it needs to be insured too
I get get a free fish for this help?

In all the threads about insurance it seems Baja Bound is a good place to buy it if you don't want to join a club. He uses reputable companies, that
does matter, believe me. And he has been very helpful to people that have had the unfortunate experience of having to actually file a claim as I have.
IMO, stay away from Qualitas which is sold by Lewis and Lewis and many border insurance offices.

the insurance place at the last turn off is open
its a drive thru
cost is about $10 a day
liability only
lawyer included
and you NEED that
just remember you are buying a mex insurance policy
if you get screwed the american broker will probably not be able to assist
i remember in the past when vags ins went belly up
they just blew off their people
no refunds
nothing
they were lucky no one was hurt during that period
their liability in selling ins is limited
so...the companies are ALL the same
price should be your only concern

I use bajabound.com also. It is extremely convenient, and makes for one less stop on the way down.

BajaBound (and Discover Baja) both sell HDI Seguros and those policies cover charges for repairs made in the USA, as well!

Qualitas, sold by L&L and Costco sure does get hammered
here. Deserved, don't know.
Vags Ins Co did go belly up, but that was some
12 yrs ago. Gotta go with DK, HDI, formerly Genworth
would get my business, I would get the $100,000
liability limit, as a minimum, not the $50,000

Would you also try to increase the $2,000/$10,000 limitation on medical expenses?
L&L is 5,000/25000 with 300,000 liability

I have had the Annual L&L liability before, you are
right, the L&L standard liability CSL is $300,000, for
$125 annual liability that is a heck a lot of coverage.
I contacted one of the SD Mex Ins Brokers about
the recommended coverage, they responded that
in their opinion, $100,000 is adequate, the person
responding said they could not remember a claim
much over the $50,000 limit. But you talk about being in
the wrong place, what IF you took out something big,
and the damage exceeded your coverage, muy malo.
I believe when you increase the liability limit to $100,000
the med coverage you mentioned also goes up.
I've heard both good and not so good on Qualitas/L&L,
when I get another annual, it will not be with Qualitas,
I don't have any real specifics, no first hand experience,
just what I've read
