Motel in Loreto
My son and I will be flying to Loreto for some fishing this coming week. Need recommendation for a motel. Don't need a pool; nor Wi Fi; nor antiques
in the lobby. Close to the marina and down town since we will not have a car. So far I have researched La Damiana Inn; Iguana Inn and Motel Dorado --
maybe Sukasa Bungalows. All off of the internet but have never been to Loreto before. Any recommendations?

Desert Inn ( old La Pinta) is next to the marina. Has pool etc.
Don't knock the pool part after a hot day on the water.

You might also consider the Quinta San Francisco, which is right on the Malecon, a very short walk from the Marina that you will be fishing out of. It
is owned by a very charming woman and has the bargain rate of $42.00 per night.
To call her from the US dial 01152-613-135-1088.

You can't go wrong with any of the suggestions made on this thread but I strongly DO NOT recommend La Pinta. Very, very basic rooms and very over
priced. Nice pool, filled with lots and lots of screaming kids. It is located on the beach where you can have your Panga pick you up but as I
mentioned, I would stay at the other ones mentioned. The ones mentioned are lot cheaper and a better feel to the places.
If the Quinta San Francisco is open, that is where I would put my head. Walk to the Marina and to Augies for Happy Hour!

HOLA, MYSELF AND DIFFERENT FRIENDS HAVE STAYED AT HOTEL ANGRA IN LORETO AND IT'S THE NEWEST AND NICEST BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH RATES BETTER THAN THE

WONDERFUL AND ACCOMODATING ENGLISH SPEAKING HOSTS. LARGE SECURED PARKING AND A COFFEE SHOP. THE LOCATION IS VERY QUIET AS WELL. A DEFINITE 10 ++
OVERALL, THERE IS NO COMPARISON ! TWO STORY WITH DOME AND ARCHED ENTRYWAY. NO VERY HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES DUE TO ARCHED ENTRY Ana Carranza,

If you have a Mexican electric or phone bill, Desert Inn gives a nice discount...ask for one of the villas
Angra is probably nicer but not near the water.

We stayed in cocos in january. mention that you are a nomad and you get a discount. Nice place. We've stayed in both Angra and Cocos and prefer cocos
as it has charm, places to sit outside, nice pool and hot tub and price is reasonable.

O.G.....If you want no frills, no pool, just a clean motel w/AC close to the marina in Loreto, you won't do better than QSF. On the malecon two
blocks from the launch ramp......

Coco Cabanas and Hotel Angra your best bet..Don't stay at Hotel Desert Inn (La Pinta) overpriced and basic rooms..Also, if your going out fishing, go
to the Marina to hire one of the panga's there or make arrangements the day before..Do not use the Charter's in town...not recommended at all. Over
priced mostly and you can get better prices right there at the Marina..

All very good advise in the above recomendations.
Coco is not that far from the marina, but to call that a pool?
La Pinta is your best location and also right at the beach without all the traffic that makes the Malecon a no no on weekend stays. (I stayed at
Sukasa, Not quiet on weekends. But great sunrises!)
Have a blast fishing.
The grass is always greener....
and so, there is always a better spot in Baja

Las Cabanas de Loreto - small 5-6 rooms, but quiet, small kitchen. 50 yds off the malecon -..and they'll hook you up with Adrian for fishing. He's
right up the alley - He'll pick you up in the am and drop you off right at your door. He'll clean the fish at his house...walk up, have a cerveza and
you're done. Las Cabanas often full, but check it out on line - great people run it and will take care of any need/question. We've visited Baja for
30 years (you get what you pay for) this place will always be where we'll stay in Loreto. Yep you can find places that might be $20 cheaper, but if
it's in your budget consider Las Cabanas.

(Sorry Blanca, I deleted instead of editing my post and left you hanging but it went something like this...)
We stayed at CocoCasitas cococasitas last month for a couple of nights while running errands. It's part of the CocoCabaņas complex but newer, with a separate pool and each
room has cooking facilities like the Cabaņas do.
Very nice people, small quiet setting, complete kitchen in the room and large BBQ's right outside the door. I usually don't require a pool either O.G.
but we parked our truck and walked everywhere while there and it was H-O-T. So it was walk to the bank- go for a dip; walk to dinner-go for a dip;
back out for ice cream-and in to the pool. And nothing like floating in the water watching the stars come out...ahhh.
I had forgotten til capitolcat mentioned it, he asked when we checked in if we "belonged to any clubs like Vags etc" to which I said no. "How about
BajaNomad?" Which cracked me up, but I had to confess- and we got about $5 discount per night.
How is the parking at Quinta San Francisco?

What would you call it? I have stayed there in the past, and thought it was a perfectly fine pool...in fact with the current triple digit
temperatures (I live in a house without a pool) I would give my eye teeth, first born child, right arm, etc to be able to use it!!!!
To the original poster...Coco Cabaņas is an excellent place to stay...so is Las Cabaņas. I would really think twice about foregoing a pool.

agree with all posts thus far, including the cautions to avoid the La Pinta/Desert Inn (the resident discount is available to holders of FM3/2) one
mention was made of MiCortezZone which would be perfect for you, except the owner, Bruce, is in the states and it's not open for business at this
time. Iguana Inn is also good, but check first on line as I think Julie, owner, told me they were going to be out of town for a week or so.
***note how many resident/owners of small places leave in the heat, should be a big big hint for air conditioning and a pool*** Cocos Cabanas is very
good. will require walking in the heat, though. as will the Angra.
I don't think anyone has mentioned the Hotel Oasis. far end of the malecon, but the panga captains will pick you up and drop you off right at the
beach out front. good ac'd restaurant, too. and pool.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Thanks for all of the feedback. A lot of you seem to emphasize the need for a pool because of the heat....hmmm. We will be departing Ensenada for
Loreto in a couple of hours; flying time will be 3+ hours -- plenty of time to ruminate all of your suggestions. Thank you all again.
