Last minute...nice restaurant with A/C in Loreto?
I know that this is asking too much in off season summertime. But, it is husband's birthday and I am gonna ask anyways. Where would you go for a
special occasion dinner in Loreto that would have A/C? I think we have been to almost every restaurant in town and while we will likely end up at one
of them, perhaps there is something we have overlooked or one in Nopolo or Loreto Bay that might fit the bill?
Thank you for any new ideas....

Living in Loreto during the summertime, we find ourselves asking that same question. The answer is: Not Many. Domingos has good food but marginal
AC, Islas has reasonable food and marginal AC. The Oasis has reasonable food and good AC. Other than that, I don't know. Anyone else out there know
of somtheing??????

There's my house.....Manny did a super job installing 9 tons of Trane Mini Splits!!
But all kidding aside, I can't think of a place in town that has good food and really decent air conditioning, especially at this time of year.

how about going to Villas Palmar down at Ensenada Blanca, or whatever they've renamed it? I've heard, though can't confirm, that there is one very
nice indoor restaurant, excellent food. for a real birthday treat you could do the day pass...I think it's about 65US per person, includes all
food/drink and use of the facilities. the hours for the pass though end at 6pm so you would have to either have a big birthday lunch or an early
birthday dinner (or, heck, both) and you'd still be back in Loreto by dark.
other than that, maybe street tacos and celebrate your husband's half birthday in six months here? the Oasis has the only comfy ac in town, I eat
there once a week, so am a little tired of the menu, but many items are acceptable.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

That's too bad that there aren't any restaurants with both good food and good a/c.
There are several, probably more than several good restaurants with good food, just not the a/c, I guess. What about that restaurant next to the
Hacienda hotel (about a 1/4 mile in from Highway 1) that used to be named "El Nido"? Great porterhouse steaks with a good baked clams on the half
shell? or the Mediteraneo restaurant on the Malecon. What about the restaurant in the New Mission Hotel? Haven't eaten there, but it sure looks
good; they would have good a/c, wouldn't they?
CP, Mulegena and Loretana: side point - in my casita in La paz I have 5.5 tons of minisplits for 861 sq ft of living space as measured from outside
walls of the house. That's about one ton for every 157 sq ft. Does the job adequately and comfortably, but if I had it do do over again, would put
another 1 ton to then average 130 sq ft per ton. That would do it proper in La Paz for all my gringo visitors from the USA.

Surprised no one mentioned the Mision Hotel.
Right on the waterfront, pretty surroundings, good A/C and not too expensive.

oops, forgot the Mission Hotel restaurant, second floor. adequate ac, and food is pretty good, too, and you can swim before or after. the acoustics
are pretty bad, though. the Tripui Hotel Restaurant is sometimes ac'd, but not very adequate. acoustics likewise bad. pool is nice. I haven't
been to Pedro's restaurant out at Pto Escondido in a few years, have even forgotten the name, food is pricey, sometimes great, sometimes average or
below, but if his ac is on, that's another choice.

Actually, we have 9.5 tons of Trane Mini Splits at the "Fishin' Shack"....
It works out to 1 ton in each of 5 bedrooms, and 1.5 each in the kitchen, dining and living areas.
The best part about the Mini Split technology is that you only need to cool the area you are inhabiting at a given moment.
The electric bill hasn't been too outrageous, either.
It seems that the various restaurants discussed here are all so large and open that the A/C's just don't do the job.
I would also give the Mision Hotel a try, their food was decent the last time I visited, and they would definately have the newest system in town.

FWIW, During the hottest months of the year, I average 18 -20 KWH usage per day with a/c running most of the time. That comes out to about $1.20 USD
per day electricity cost. I make a concerted effort to become acclimated to the heat; it's healthier that way and helps control the electric cost.
Takes me about 2-3 days to get 70% acclimated, never really get 100%, but sometimes I get close, especially when I go panga fishing.
At the La Paz Meet n Greet, many of my gringo nomad friends were suffering a bit, to my surprise, their being long time permanent La Paz residents.
At $1.20 USD per day electricity cost, In the USA it would be about $4 - $5 USD per day. Huge difference, makes no sense to have to suffer in Baja
from that perspective if you have your own little place, I think.

Mediteraneo is my vote !!!!! cool and beautiful and good food, not cheap but not ridiculous either .... we love it there ... romantic and killer
ocean view. But I don´t remember if there is AC and that is a definite consideration in Loreto heat ....

Good info on the mini splits. We plan on going that way in a year or so.
We are, as I write, at the poolside bar in La Mision. Have had very good food here in the dining room. As always...just looking for someplace we
have not tried. Looks like birthday dinner will be here or at Mediteranno.
Lunch was dissapointing at Mi Cielito Lindo....NO COLD BEER. That is three strikes for one pitch in my game. Food was OK and generous. But.
Anyways, other than that we are LOVING our day in Loreto with a pleasant drive over the penninsula and successful shopping endevours and beautiful
albeit humid weather and nice cold beer right now. Evesdropping on gringo fish stories.

Have you managed to swim there? They told me, and others that eating there doesn't get you pool time. To use the pool it's $30 per adult and $15 for
kids in addition to food. They told someone else they couldn't use the pool because their food bill wasn't at least 50 dollars! The only time I know
of when people got to use the pool was a prearranged group that had a lunch.
I haven't found the food there to be very special...the ac is good....and happy hour is good. Pizzas are ok.

AC "facts" ?
Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but looks like CP has already settled on his restaurant choice, and it now seems to have morphed into an AC
discussion.
MitchMan, once again I find myself questioning your “facts”. You say you have 5.5 tons of mini splits in your house that you run “most of the time”
in the hot months. You then say that you only use 18 – 20 KWH/day??? That math doesn’t work out. One ton mini splits draw about 1200 watts
(compressor running) although the very newest, high efficiency ones now draw 1000 (I know I just installed three of them). If you ran all 5.5 tons
“most of the time” – say 18 hours a day, that works out to - 5.5 X 1200 = 6600 watts/hr. X 18 hours/day = 118.8 KWH/day. Even if you only run
half the units, it still comes out to: 2.75 X 1200 = 3300 X 18 = 59.4 KWH/day. I can’t speak to your $1.20/day electricity costs as I am off grid and
solar powered here, but that doesn’t sound right either based on friends I know who pay for electricity here.
Are these the same kind of “facts” that you were presenting in another thread on Carlos Slim??? Remember, just because you say them, doesn’t make
them “facts”.
