internet at Playa El Burro

Does anybody have a contact for a Hughes Net rep in the Mulege area? I am trying to get internet at our palapa in El Burro. People have it in El Burro and at Playa Coyote but the owners are in the states and I haven't been able to get a local contact phone or email address. I don't have the equipment etc so starting from scratch. Thanks

What about the guy that has the store, restaurant & internet across from the gas station and N. of Saul's Palapa restaurant (RIP)? I've heard a lot of rally good comments about him. If he doesn't do that I'll bet he know who does.

he can't get eqiupment...
wayne was a certified installer and could cross the border

actually you cant get hughes equipment or strat service here
you need it shipped to a stateside address

no one here can supply the parts

at this point you would probably be better off using the geko restruant across fron the pemex
since you didnt set up internet before you left
they have great service

Hughes Net Installer

Wayne's son Mario is still doing Hughes Net Installs.

You have to bring all the equipment from the states.

He lives in San Lucitas just south of Santa Rosalia, is a college kid so usually only takes appointments for week-ends and when he can find a car to use.

I bought my systems from Craig's List - 2 - to make sure I had equipment and parts and did not do a contract with Hughes for a time period. I just do a $60 a month no contract connection.

Best money I ever spent.

chupa- thanks- I did get Mario's email from a gal at Posada Concepcion but so far he hasn't responded to my emails. To Russ- I know Sals store in town but didn't know he had internet at the palapa restaurant- I'll stop in to see him. To everybody else that responded- thanks- I do eat frequently at Geiko's and use their internet. However, I still do some limited stock trading and it is about 16 miles from the palapa to Geikos so to make the trip twice a day ie before the stock market opens and after it closes is a bit much. I checked craigs list and there are several choices for hughes net equipment- being a novice I just don't know what I need. I'll be returning to the states in late october for the holidays so I'll be able to get the equipment but hoping to get some feedback from mario as to exactly what I need to bring back. Thanks again for the help. Ron

Last I heard Mario has flaked out. No one here has been able to contact him in at least 4 months. I hope it ain't true! Maybe he doesn't like the road but he's not answering his phone either. He is experience and a good kid.
edit: Here's the last # I have for Mario 615-155-0759

watch out what you buy used

remember the antenna has a radio
it goes out

the modem is like a lightbulb
it goes out

you need a correct crimper for the cable for a correct connection

you should be commissioned for sat mex 5 here in mulege
for the best service

after that aim and go

Wayne Davy was one of my really good friends and I had really hoped that his step-son Mario would take the horse by the reins and work the business that Wayne had set up for him, but it has not happened and Mario has let things slide.
The most knowledgable person actually serving Hughes Net in Baja is Allan Thompson and he will help you get set up and going. His website is here and he is a frequent contributor on this forum.

Abs,

Talk to Carlos. He is the owner of the Gecko Restaurant and also runs the internet shop there. He is a wizzard with computers and probably has some contacts from you. He may even come across come used Hughes Equipment.

Don't confuse your Sauls. Saul Davis, who has the tienda in town, is not the Saul that was referred to as the former restaurant owner of Saul's, the former restaurant that was next to the 11/7 store. The 11/7 Store is called something else now but I don't remember the name. Saul Davis has nothing to do with computers and the other Saul has gone, I believe.

Carlos is The Man!:light:

I have a neighbor that was using Hughes net then Telcel and now is seeing how MoviStar works. So Far she says the Movistar is better than Telcel and covers most of Chivato and is cheaper. I have no idea if it works inside Conception. But someone should check it out.

Allan Thompson is good. I think he is working in the US but still has business associates in Todos Santos. Look on Baja Western Onion. He has summer specials listed in his ad and might have stock?? Check it out. Tio

Ron, hooking up a sat system is easy, You just need a sat. finder or alot of patience. see my u2u. Another option would be to contact a neighbor and share his/her sat. connection. You would only need an access point off his computer and possibility, but not likely, a remote antenna on your end. A $ 50 investment and you split his monthly costs.

Russ- I think you're right about Mario. He hasn't answered my emails or my phone messages. Bob and Susan- thanks for the heads up on used- all I need is to bring equipment that doesn't work!! Toneart- Thanks. I have talked to Carlos. He is very helpful and I try to give him whatever business I have but he doesn't have any Hughes Net contacts. Tio- Thanks for the lead on Thompson- I'll contact him. WillieAirstream- got your u2u. Thanks. The two neighbors I have that have Hughes are in the States. It is my understanding that both have tried to share in the past but it has caused hard feelings due to one using more bandwidth etc. I would sooner have my own. I may take you up on your offer to assist with installation- I really appreciate it and will make it worth your time!! Also to Russ- I didn't realize Moviestar had internet. I'll check them out. If I have missed anybody it is not intentional. I appreciate all the info. Ron

Max did almost all his installations in the cape area. Plus I believe does not do Baja installs any longer, aside from supporting his existing customers.

Hugo. Is not Hugo and wife Josephina the owner(s) of Sr. Gecko?
