Tijuana road conditions
Hello Everyone. It's been awhile since I've poked around on BN, but wanted to ask about up-to-date information on roads in Tijuana. We're heading
down to Coyote Bay for a week this weekend, and it seems that from year to year we inevitably mess up finding the border coming back north. Last year
we took Calle Internaccional to Ocampo, then left at Calle Sarabia (I think) then left at Paseo de los Heroes. (or maybe it was Paseo de Tijuana?)
Anyway, are there any road changes we should know about? Is there a different/better way to do this?
Thanks so much for your help! Can't wait to be in Baja!

I sure would rather come north through Tecate (via Hwy. 3 from Ensenada)...
Otay second (via Corredor 2000 from Puerto Nuevo and Popotla)...
San Ysidro last (from Playas de Tijuana on 1-D)...
All routes are so well signed, there shouldn't be a problem, specially if you did it before?

Thanks, David. Looks like we're going to take your advice and go through Tecate. All these years and I've been so resistant to change, but it looks
much easier on the map, too.
I'll have to do some research, but do you remember how long it takes from Ensenada to Tecate? How is that road?

It is about the same distance from Ensenada as is Tijuana... 70 miles. Road is excellent... 4 lanes for a bit, then the new wider style 2 lane, then
the original 2 lane... But they are widening it south from Tecate... could be a short detour, nothing bad. Allow 2 hours.
As you drop into town, note the big baseball field on your right... and a Mc Donald's straight ahead... You turn right between them... along the RR
tracks, signed San Diego, Hwy. 94, Garita... soon you will fork to the left over the RR track and jcn. with Hwy. 2 (free road) at a traffic circle
with trees... go right (towars Mexicali) but just a short distance to the signal, left turn for the border. Come to full stop at all stop signs, that
traffic circle is watched closely!
I have posted Google Earth maps of all this here on Nomad... it is easy and signed.

Yes, this is for the Otay Border. It is easy... but long border lines are typical here... unless you have Sentri like bajaguy!

Yes, this is for the Otay Border. It is easy... but long border lines are typical here... unless you have Sentri like bajaguy!

To use the Ready Lane crossing at Otay Mesa northbound, you need some type of government issued ID CARD that has an RFID (radio frequency
identification) chip, such as a US Passport Card, a SENTRI card or an enhanced state driver’s license.

You CANNOT use a passport to ENTER the Ready Lane, even if the Passport has an RFID chip.
