dog health certificate
Hi,
Has anyone flown from US or CANADA to BAJA recently with a pet?? I just got back from my vet and they said the usda's website stated that mexico
wanted a health certificate in english and spanish. We usually drive down so we have not encountered this. Englius has always been fine. Our dog has
only flown from mexico to the states so we didn't have a problem there. Any info would be appreciated.

Which airport? I can give you the "411" on SJD airport...seems that every airport is different.

If you want to get picky I read once that the Health Certificate had to be performed within a few days of travel?
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Hi Thanks,
SO,,,, I found out that it is airport/port dependent. We are flyingin to san jose del cabo. It would seem crazy that they would have the spanish
requirement in san jose. SOoooo many from canada and usa fly into there. Thanks

My vet said a women from here got turned away. She was going to Merida. She said that most countries that have such a requirement have the forms in
the appropriate language online. Not mexico. Go figure. We're flying into sjd this monday.

There is a triplicate tri-color form. My vet issues one titled "Interstate Health Certificate for Dogs and Cats". Cost was $30 USD plus well care
exam. This one is different from the "International Health Certificate" which is required for Europe and other countries. That one cost around $150
USD...thank goodness Mexico (SJD) does not want that one, yet!
Greta, check your U2U.

SJD has had some different requirements for dogs in the past (won't honor 3 yr. rabies shot, must be 1 yr.). Maybe a little time on the computer.

You are correct about the "3 year rabies shot". Best way to handle this is to explain to your USA vet that Mexican Customs will not allow a dog into
the country that is on the "3 year shot" and ask your vet to issue the certificate with a "one year' expiration date. That is how my friend has her
vet in Reno issue the triplicate tri-color form. If you do have the "3 year certificate" the only way the dog will be allowed into the country is for
Mexican Customs to call a local vet to the airport to give a new one year rabies shot to the dog.
I know this for a fact as it happened to my friend, the one that now has the USA vet issue a "one year expiration" date.
Edit to add: The application posted by "Jack"...that is not accepted in SJD, can't speak about other airports. It has to be the triplicate tri-color
form. Maybe that is the form used by people that have had problems...just saying.

I will let you know what termimal 3 does. In the past our old vet did the 30$ form. New vet, she used the interntional form "ouch$" . She was very
worried about my being turned away after the lady had a difficult experience in Merida. Our dog is now vaccinated, treated for fleas and ticks (we
dont have any in truckee) Luckily this time she was due for a rabbie shot. I would like to know who your friend goes to in reno if you run into her. I
work at a hospital in reno and I am down there all the time. Thanks
