San Ignacio Restaurant?
Hi,
I visited San Ignacio and the restaurant right in front of the mission was gone. It was there the last time I was in San Ignacio. We will be passing
the town on our way back and hoping to find another place to eat. Anybody have suggestion?

We like the restaurant in front of the El Padrito campground.
Just ask and they will cook it your way.

There are two or three if you go to the church plaza and then go straight south or left on the second street and one or two on the street that comes
back toward the plaza. My favorite is the one on the right hand side that is about 1 1/2 blocks from the plaza and has outdoor seating in the front.

Or stop in Ignacio Springs Yurts and make a ressie for dinner with them. Terry makes a wonderful meal.
Or stop in the next morning for breakfast before you take off. Probably should make a ressie for that too.

for an average reasonable meal, go to RICE AND BEANS. As you are coming south, it is the entrance BEFORE the entrance to San Ignacio.
There is another place right near the church and on the corner but they will let you sit there forever before they take your order .... quite odd, so
we have given up eating with them.
The suggestion to eat at San Ignacio yurts is a good one - we haven't eaten there yet but have heard rave reviews ! I will post a phone number if I
can find it ...

Rice and Beans
Popular choice of racers. Lots of racing posters and memorabilia. Full bar and inside/outside seating. We have had decent meals there.

Yup. Ricardo's Rice & Beans does serve up a decent meal. Been there several times.
Just wish their hotel rooms were as good as their food.
Over the years, as Ricardo has expanded, we have stayed there a number of times, always hoping that he would improve the accommodations. First rooms
were in the building where the restaurant is. I had high hopes that when he went and built the other building across the parking lot, it would be
better. Nah!
For dyed-in-the-wool Baja adventurers, Ricardo's rooms are fine. Never saw any vermin. Had hot water. But, they are somewhat primitive versus some
other small town hotels in Central Baja.

How good is the food? Depends upon how hungry you are. People get picky when they aren't that hungry to begin with. If you eat 3 meals a day and don't
do some heavy-duty labor, you're spending more time eating than you are working. What's wrong with that picture? You're obese and waddle around from
one eatery to the next. Low and behold! The food isn't that good, but......

I suggest you eat at rice and beans or san ignacio springs inn
sleep at Juanita's CASA LEREE

It is reasonable and so beautiful nestled among trees and bushes and flowers ..the canal with fresh spring water running thru it is perfect for
dipping your feet in when it is hot hot hot outside. and the museum is so ineteresting with the hundreds of photos, local arts and crafts and baja
books.

Around the corner from the Casa Leree, is the old La Pinta Inn (now has a new name that I can't remember. Food was decent at their restaurant.

Primitive or basic??
I have stayed there numerous times and would call them basic: two queen beds (Mexican "firm"), clean bathroom (big) with lotsa hot water, toilets
flush, tv w/ various but limited channels (sometimes in-house race videos)....no bugs or rats....
Just sayin' ...

I always stop at Hotel Fong's restaurant for cafe colado (fresh brewed in a sock) when I pass through and have breakfasted there once, too. Its ok and
the coffee ritual seems to have magical restorative properties (wakes me up good).

I think the place Pescador is talking about is Rene's, which is quite good but often a long wait for food - depending on what you order and what they
have in hand. You often see the cook walk down the street to the mercadito to purchase ingredients after you order. It overlooks the historic big
octagonal pila out back which is fed from the acequia that runs all the way from the presa (and through Juanita's Casa Leree. I have also heard there
is an excellent chef at the Desert Inn (ex La Pinta) restaurant - probably not within your average nomad's budget, but worth mentioning to those who
are looking for fine dining in a sleepy town.

We use to eat at Rice and Beans when it came to restaurants in San Ignacio, until the time they left us hanging about an hour after we had ordered,
and still no food. We left and wound up at Fong's (on the right just after you leave the highway). Haven't been back to Rice and Beans since.
There most certainly is but one side to every story: the TRUTH. Variations of it are nothing but lies.
